We had the good fortune of connecting with Ples Montgomery IV and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ples, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite affirmation comes from the movie “Attack The Block” The affirmation is “ALLOW IT”
This is a favorite of mine due to the storyline of the movie, and the way they used it. Also I discovered this with my brother and we started using it whenever we had something important to get done. It’s a reminder to do what you can for whatever you want to accomplish and allow it to happen even if you don’t know it exactly how to get it done or if what you are going to do will workout.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I want the world to know that our project is much bigger than food. We on what our ancestors were on. What the formerly enslaved humans and the people indigenous to this continent was on. This is about freedom, sovereignty, self-determination, unity, purpose, collective, responsibility, etc… Our goal is empowerment. We are not here for awards and tax breaks and guilt assuaging. Our goal is shifting the status quo from competition to cooperation… From scarcity mindset to abundance mindset… From oppression to expression… From dependance to sovereignty.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Gotta give a shout out to my co-founder and mother Bettie Montgomery. She is really the reason all of this work with OCVP is being done. I gotta shout out to Reggie and LaChanda Dupard, the founders and directors of Fit & Faithful Living. They have low-key been my mentors in nonprofit management and operations. They have high-key been good friends of mine and allowed me to hone my skills as a teacher of urban agriculture hydroponics. Shout out to the book The Spook Who Sat By The Door.
