Meet Peyton Bissell | Owner of Teal Sky Co.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Peyton Bissell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Peyton, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My main goal when starting Teal Sky Co. was to empower others with positivity through the products that I have designed! Teal Sky Co. is all about being yourself and allowing your confidence to shine through! What you surround yourself with is a huge part of expressing yourself and can change your outlook on each day. Whether you want to express yourself through our apparel, stickers, or tote bags, your positivity will emit to everyone around you. With my degree in art I knew I wanted to create something bigger than myself. I started making designs and producing apparel, stickers, and so much more with those designs that eventually I started to build a brand identity. Teal Sky Co. provides a style that is retro, groovy, and FUN! What I strive for the most is to make sure everyone that gets to know me and my business, knows that they are going to have fun! I love the aspect of the pop-up markets that I have been able to do and to meet so many of my customers in person. Being at markets has not only allowed my connection to grow more with customers, but also other small business owners. I absolutely love the connections I have built over almost 4 year of business and being able to lift other small businesses up too has been nothing short of magical!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always had a spark of creativity in me. I was the girl that loved going to art museums on vacation. The one who received art kits for birthdays and holidays. I love painting and drawing, but it wasn’t until college that I truly fell in love. In college, I was exposed to so many different medias of art that I was able to really hone in on my personal artistic style. I have always felt that I wanted to create meaningful works of art that help people. I want others to feel a sense of ease and positivity when viewing my artwork. I think my artwork truly speaks to the person I am. Putting yourself out there in the form of artwork, isn’t always easy, but I think that is what I am most proud of. I think that is how I got to where I am today. Regardless of any negativity that comes in, I stay focus, take the negativity as contructive and continue on. I want the world to know that you can do anything you put your mind to. I want the world to see a real, genuine, postive person that simply wants to make the world better. I try to portray this everyday in my brand.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I LOVE Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar! It is such a fun and exciting spot for weekend night life. However, I cannot forget about one of my favorite art museums the Dallas Museum of Art! The DMA is where art comes alive and I can truly say I will go back forever and ever due to all the diverse exhibitions!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe my success to so many people! My husband, Justin, has been nothing short of supportive! He is there for me during some of the most challenging business decisions. My parents, Paul and Tristan, you guys have been to all my markets and showed up, and that means the world to me! To my friends that have been there to brainstorm ideas with, you are amazing! It means the world to me everytime someone likes or comments on my content, or buys from my shop. I truly am thankful to each and every person that has help me get to where I am today!
