We had the good fortune of connecting with Peggy Easterling and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Peggy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
So much fear comes when you begin to learn new things and as a new entrepreneur, every task is new and can feel like a risk.

Risk is something that is daily there available for us in work. We can settle for comfortable but people willing to take the risks in life and move beyond the comfortable are the ones that find success.

Risk is about probibility. But we miss 100% of the shots we don’t take.

I truly believe that it is risky to live our lives in the comfort zone and trade our time and livelyhood for a paycheck at a job that we find zero fulfillment in.

I left behind my corporate management posisiton and took steps toward getting a new degree and going back to college in my 40s. Not knowing what obstacles that could bring brought risks! I am so grateful that I did because the rewards of working as a Christian Mindset Coach now and helping women who have tramatic pasts to take action toward their future is so fulfilling. I say to my clients all the time, “We have to do it sweaty!”

Fear will always be available to us. Just because I am working a job that I love and did some hard things does not mean that the risk is behind me. Every day there is a choice to settle for just average or go for the huge visions of the future that are dreams in my heart.

I believe that God gives each of us futures with hope. This hope filled future often takes risk to attain. This doesn’t look like the high achievers often show us with Lamborghinis and jet planes. Often it is when we take that next small step relationally to risk a conversation with someone with whom there is a unsettled feeling of potential conflict. We can take the risk to lean into relationship even when we are unconfortable.

When I have done this in my business, I have been able to gain closer business alliances and gained friendships along the way. It is in the moment that I could have walked away in disagreement, but I chose to risk the unconfortable and lean into relationship, that I reap the greatest benefits.

Entrepreneurship is taking risk. I self-protected so much in my past due to childhood trauma after abuse. When I finally unpacked that trauma and surrendered it, it opened my eyes to opporuntity in my life that I was not able to see otherwise.

Risk is not always about financial investment. Sometimes, it is having the mindset of loving others well above all esle. When we make the choice to run our businesses that way, I find that is when I reap the greatest reward.

What should our readers know about your business?
I founded The Mindset School to help Christian women entrepreneurs who experienced tramatic pasts to take the next steps toward their future.

The Mindset School is a community space where we hear from mindset experts, ministry leaders, and professional counselors, and business professionals to help us overcome the obstacles keeping us from the next step that God has called us to in business and in life.

One of my clients recently shared, “I just have to say I LOVE THIS COMMUNITY. I was in a funk this morning, actually the past couple of days and the women standing shoulder to shoulder today with their amazing insights and encouragement got me out of it.”

This is what we do in The Mindset School. We are all on our mindset journeys and will be as long as we are on this earth but we have the ability and responsibility to take our thoughts captive and use our mental real estate to serve us instead of to put on mental boxing gloves against ourselves.

If you are looking for a community to go the journey with you while you renew your mind, you have found it!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love to go have lunch on a patio in Legacy in Plano, TX or a restaurant at The Star in Frisco, TX.

The shopping, the beautiful relaxed atmosphere, and the smiles as we have a patio lunch with those we love the most making memories that we won’t forget are priceless.

If you came for a visit we would have to go to church and worship together. I love Hope Fellowship Church where I attend and volunteer still today in their Re|Generation 12 step recovery program.

I love a good walk around a community park and my walks with my lab mix, Rosco in the mornings are some of my favorite times to talk to God.

If I could share these simple moments of my life with people that I love, that is what life is about.

I also enjoy a good trip. Whether to the beaches of Florida or Mexico, a carribbean cruise, or a road trip to the Hill Country, having the people I love beside me to share these precious moments bring me so much joy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I reached out to my the pastor of my chuch to see if I could be an intern to complete my psychology degree. He referred me to a program called Re|Generation. This 12 step program helps men and women suffering from anything from pride to drug addiction.

Day one of the program, I knew that although I was supposed to be a leader in the space, God was going to use that time to deal with my own tramatic past and finally surrender the basement of my heart to Him.

In that space, I said things that I would never admit publically to a group of the most amazing women I had met in my life.

I dedicate my success foremost to God but also to all of the people doing the bravest work of being vulnerable in community and walking through 12 steps to never give up, even in those moments that you do not want to feel anymore because it hurts so bad. You are the bravest people I have ever met, and you deserve recognition.
