We had the good fortune of connecting with Nyquel Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nyquel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I initiated Dollminknblinkco during my sophomore year in high school back in 2019, initially as a side hustle. Despite having a version and a plan, securing funding was a challenge. To overcome this hurdle, I convened a family meeting to present my ideas and seek their support. Fortunately, they agreed, enabling me to embark on my entrepreneurial journey. With the support received, I purchased my first batch of inventory, leading to a profit of over $1,000. This success fueled my determination to make a lasting impact in the beauty industry. I started with lashes, recognizing their significance to women, and later expanded into other cosmetics. Over the years, my business has experienced exponential growth, and the thought of giving up, even during challenging school times, has never crossed my mind. Currently, my mission extends beyond business; I am on a journey to inspire mature ladies of all ages, emphasizing the importance of looking elegant and poised while pursuing continuous learning.

What should our readers know about your business?
In my years as a successful business owner, I’ve undergone significant personal and professional growth. Now, my focus is on inspiring mature women of all ages to embrace the importance of elegance and poise in their learning journey. I’ve always distinguished myself by thriving in life and maintaining unwavering self-belief, acknowledging the privilege of having a supportive mother and abundant resources.

The path to my current position wasn’t without its challenges– I’ve experienced setbacks and witnessed life’s ups and downs. These experiences taught me invaluable lessons; to approach life seriously, exercise patience in business decisions, surround oneself with like-minded individuals, and, above all, maintain a steadfast belief in God.

Overcoming obstacles involved cultivating patience, prioritizing self-focus, and balancing the demands of being a college student while managing a business. Despite the inherent difficulties, I’ve successfully navigated this dual role in recent years. I’m passionate about conveying to the world the mission of Dollminknblinkco–enhancing women’s beauty while fostering knowledge. Our platform empowers students to feel their best as they navigate the challenge of learning and personal growth.

Our vision extends beyond beauty; it’s about building and uplifting young women’s self-esteem. We recognize the daily sacrifices they make in pursuit of their academic goals, and we aim to be a source of support and inspiration on their journey.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To ensure my best friend has an unforgettable week-long trip, I’d craft an itinerary that combines exquisite dining, leisurely shopping, relaxation, and exciting entertainment. Kicking off the adventure, we’d indulge in my favorite culinary haven, Kitchen & Cocktail. The flavorful lamb paired with sumptuous lobster mac & cheese is an absolute must. After satisfying our taste buds, we’d head to the local mall for some retail therapy, scrolling through its vibrant spaces and picking up a few treasures along the way. Following a daily filled with delicious eats and shopping with delights, it’s time to unwind. A visit to Spa Castle would be the perfect remedy. Wrapped in plush robes, we’d surrender to the tranquility of massages, soak in the serene pool, and sip on refreshing drinks.
As the sun sets, signaling the end of a relaxing day, the night is still young on the vacation. The final stop is Andretti, where the real fun begins. Go-Kart racing, games and lively entertainment await for us an exhilarating and laughter filled event.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am incredibly grateful to God for the community he has placed in my life. The support system from my family and friends is remarkably strong. My mother has consistently gone above and beyond to make sure I have everything I need but more. This upbringing has left me with no option but to consistently choose the right path in life.
Being a part of a family filled with leaders has revealed my divergence from others, highlighting the uniqueness within me. A special appreciation goes to my big sister, Saige Phillips, who consistently exceeds expectations in her big sister duties. I am also grateful for my friend and bookkeeper Faith Tanksley, who is just always just a message away, answering my questions and providing support during challenging moments in business. Her encouraging words have been a constant source of motivation.

My grandmother, Deborah Canady, played a pivotal role in molding at a young age with values of respect, etiquette and manners. As I’ve grown older and followed her instructions, she continues to present me with opportunities and opens doors for me.
