We had the good fortune of connecting with Norman Matthew and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Norman, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Honestly, for me. Sometimes I truly feel I didn’t choose music. It chose me. There have been times I have tried to walk away from it. Discouraged, jaded, burnt out, scared. Whatever the reason. But something about a heartfelt hook and melody over a great groove keeps calling me back. There is always a new glass ceiling to break. The creative bug hits you and before you know it, you are back at it again! A thousand times stronger and more involved. It’s all I’ve ever really had a passion for since I was 4 or 5 years old.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There have been been many obstacles and challenges. Born in El Paso, TX. A gorgeous Bordertown without much of music scene. We had to make our scene. It brought out something special about us all who were cutting our teeth as aspiring musicians. We had to learn the hustle and create our own destiny so to speak. Life is a wild ride with all kinds of twists and turns. It’s how you overcome that really defines you. I’ve learned too many lessons to count, ha! Something I am super proud of and incredibly grateful for is scoring two Billboard Top 40 Rock singles in 2019 with As Strange As Angels. I had all but given up on myself and my music. My little boy inspired me to continue to chase my dream. Without even knowing it, At 3yrs old, he re-lit a fire in my heart.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I wish I could give some interesting answers, but I am fairly introverted these days. I don’t drink. Just hang with my son or in a studio. I do love my fam at Trees & peeps at Deep Sushi & Taco Joint though!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom & my son ❤️
