We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicolette Capuano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicolette, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
“I attribute much of my success to the exceptional example set by my parents, who were outstanding custom home builders. They instilled in me the importance of taking pride in my work, paying close attention to details, and standing behind what I create. When working with clients, I prioritize taking the time to understand their needs and vision, and then utilize my creative abilities to bring their aesthetic goals to life. Rather than focusing solely on achieving success, my focus is on continually challenging myself to create work of the highest quality possible. It is my passion and, as such, I am dedicated to giving every project my all.”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
1) What sets me apart::
I genuinely care – I know this sounds silly at first, but my work is not just a job it is a passion. I also understand the importance of maintaining a balanced perspective toward the practical aspects of my profession. It is imperative to weigh both the creative and business facets to deliver optimal solutions to clients. It is of utmost importance to me to attentively listen to my clients, and to ensure that any creation is tailored to align with their individual personal style and needs to offer the. best solutions for them.

2) What am I most proud of::
“I feel most proud when I walk back onto a project and see that you have helped to create a space that will inspire others and the client is overjoyed with the end product. It is truly fulfilling. Design and aesthetics are not just about luxury. They can bring wholeness, joy, and a general sense of well-being to our lives. It is the feeling that you have made the world a better place in your own (small) way.”

3) How did you get to where you are today professionally? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way.
I believe Churchill said it best, “ever, never, never give up!”. As someone who works in a physically and mentally demanding job, I have come across numerous challenges in my career. However, I have learned that a positive mindset, coupled with a deep sense of responsibility and the ability to learn from one’s mistakes, can go a long way in overcoming obstacles. While I tend to have a slightly perfectionist personality, I have realized that in the field of construction, unexpected situations can arise, and it is important to remain adaptable. As an entrepreneur, I have come to understand that self-belief is crucial in achieving success. Without anyone to rely on, one needs to have faith in their abilities and continue to grow. Thus, I strive to maintain a can-do attitude that helps me navigate any challenges that come my way.” As an entrepreneur, there is no one there to “catch you” so you need to have a deep seeded belief in yourself to keep growing and keep going!

4) What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I hope that the art that I have created over the years will make people’s lives better. I have a strong belief in environmental feedback, or the newly coined term R.O.E. (Return on Environment).  The spaces and places we work in, live and encounter are powerful.  They either feed or deplete us. It’s real and it is our job as artists, designers, architects (etc) to bring harmony to the world via aesthetics.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since this is a fantasy day, the Kips Bay Show House  is definitely open.  It is like dying and going to design heaven!   Coffee / Brunch time: My sister Lea O’neal (who owns Sand & Soil Flower Tuck here in Dallas) along with her husband, Pat, and new little girl Mila will meet us. They are an absolute blast and she can make anyone laugh. Let’s Move: Next, we will take a hike on Katy Trail. I love staying active, and taking long meditative walks are always rejuvenating. My little Yokie, Ronaldo, loves coming on adventures. Now that we got in a a nice sweat, let’s head home to shower and get dressed up! Dinner at Monarch and then up to Catbird at the Thompson Hotel! I fell in love with De Gournay over 10 years ago and visited the lux little cocktail lounge just to see their ‘Symphony’ paper from their Deco Collection. If it is not too late when we get back, let’s light some candles, cuddle up on my cozy, customized Interior Define Jasper Sofa and watch a movie or I may suggest she hop into my Sunlighten infrared sauna. It makes you sleep like a baby.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As mentioned before my first shout out is to my family. My parents, Jane and Leonard Capuano, modeled excellence in all areas of their custom home building business and always supported my dreams of being an artist. Without them I do not think I could have made it through the early years. When I moved to DC for a larger market, my cousins, Matt and Ashley Bronczek were instrumental in helping me get started in the area. I am forever grateful for their help and support.

My second shout out is to express my gratitude to all the interior designers, builders, and architects I have had the privilege of working with throughout the years. Collaborating with some of the most talented individuals in the country has been a life-changing experience. When I started my business at the age of 16, I learned a lot by observing and listening to others. As an artist, I was always receptive to design direction rather than being solely focused on my own ideas. This approach allowed me to grow and develop my skills with each project, and it opened my eyes to new perspectives on design.
