We had the good fortune of connecting with Mykel Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mykel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
To be completely transparent, my initial thought process was I love cooking and entertaining. How can I make money doing it! But as I started becoming more familiar with the industry, we wanted to stand out as that company that listens to our clients. Those people you call when you have a vision, and you want to bring that to life. Clients want to put together events for many different reasons, weddings, corporate functions, etc. They want to portray an image, they want to be remembered, and they don’t want to worry about the details while they are trying to entertain, or hold meetings. Our core mission now is to make that process for our clients as seamless and elegant as possible.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I was a little girl I remember sitting in the floor in front of the TV, watching cartoons, and looking at my mom’s Betty Crocker cook book. From that 6 year old little girl to right now food has always been a passion. Food is art. You can do almost anything you want with it. That always excited me. The best feeling in the world is when you put your heart into your art and people enjoy it just as much as you did creating it! I started catering on and off in 2009 in Ohio. There were a lot of learning curves when it came to cooking for others vs cooking for yourself and family. I watched others in the field, I applied for positions that dealt with catering so I could understand exactly what was supposed to happen and I applied what I learned to my own company. The best experience is hands on. I think the biggest lessons i have learned are that all money isn’t good money, and plan. Plan as much as you possibly can, but give yourself grace. In this industry anything can happen and you have to be ready. My brand is as unique as the individuals that run it and the clients we service. From the creatives in the kitchen to the showmen in the front. We don’t just cook, serve drinks, or plan events. We create an experience.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I grew up in the country, not a lot of lights, buildings etc. So the first place I’d have to take bestie would be to see the Dallas skyline at night. I’m in LOVE with it! I would also take them to go see the giant eyeball downtown, and where JFK was assassinated. I like history. I would definitely want to take them to Mavericks game and show them around Arlington where the rangers and Cowboys play.

I’m in the Frisco area, I would take them to Rodeo goat, Zios, Tupelo Honey and Legacy Hall for sure.

I like karaoke so I would take them to 2 Brothers in Plano.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Is there enough space on here? Ha-ha. I do want to thank Justin hall for his recommendation for this. He is a truly outstanding human, and his cookies are amazing. I never thought my 8 year old son would be asking for vegan cookies. My family in general has always been a huge driving force as well. I think the person who has consistently been with me the entire journey is my partner Michael. Early mornings, late nights, when I move, he moves with me. Running a fulltime business can be challenging. I can truthfully say that when I didn’t have the motivation some days he was right there to give me that push. I can never stress enough that God puts people in your path for a reason.
