We had the good fortune of connecting with MvkeyyJ and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MvkeyyJ, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
So, I’m originally from California, but now I reside in Dallas, TX. I think having both that west coast upbringing mixed with the urbanicity of Dallas has allowed me to tap into a unique sound and brand that just can’t be found in anyone else. I’m a very driven and determined person, but I also understand how to enjoy the moment and cherish every little success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a hip-hop artist put simply, but it’s so much deeper than that. I have the unique opportunity and blessing to influence people’s lives and become the soundtrack to it. I believe what sets me apart is that I realize it and create content worthy of just that. Honestly, the journey up to this point in artistry has been very hard and tiresome. I never had handouts; I was balancing school, work, church, home life, and many other extracurriculars while trying to kickstart my career. Only by the grace of God and having a strong support system was I able to juggle everything and make this music thing happen. I’m still pushing and striving for even greater things, but I know that will all come with time and growth. I want to be a role model and example of success to people, it may be hard, but nothing easy is ever worth it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
You’re visiting? Oh word, well we have to go check out the new Texas Rangers stadium! What’s really dope, is it’s right across the way from AT&T stadium as well. After we check those out, let’s hit this dope ramen spot in Downtown Dallas called Oni Ramen, one of my favorite joints! While we’re there, we can walk around and explore Deep Ellum, maybe even catch a train to uptown to eat at the famous Mai’s Restaurant; best Vietnamese food in town! To unwind, we could go to Klyde Warren Park and enjoy the scenery or grab a BIRD bike and cruise around, really anything that you’d want to do, we can do it in Dallas!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Above all, I’d like to thank God. Without him, none of this is possible. Secondly, I’d have to shoutout my parents, Joel and Teresa; and my lil brother, Anthony. They have consistently supported me and created a safety network that allowed me to really focus on artistry and get to the point where I’m at today. I still have a long way to go, but I’m off to a phenomenal start because of them.
