We had the good fortune of connecting with Mr. Talkbox and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mr. Talkbox, what role has risk played in your life or career?
What I think about taking risk and what role has risk taking played in my life and career has been very very vital. There have been many risk that I had to take in order to get to this position I’m in. I heard a quote from Steve Harvey. And that quote was “if you don’t jump you will never know what God has for you.” In other words if you don’t take a risk, you will never “see” how far your potential is. And I believed that statement. Because there were several times where I had to leave situations that put a ceiling on the ideas and dreams that I had. Had I not left those situations, I wouldn’t have been able to get to this position of freedom. And being that I’m at this position of freedom, what I do is more impactful. It’s more impactful because I am able to freely create and freely think on the things and ideas that I would like to bring to fruition. Every risk I took wasn’t easy, but it definitely catapulted me to another level. Another level of trust in God, another level of trust in myself, and it caused me to tap into a strength that I didn’t know that I had on the inside. Playing it safe it’s not wrong though. Because some people will live a life where they want to play it safe. They don’t have the faith to take risks. But for me I just felt compelled to step out by faith and make my dreams become reality. So the role of risk taking in my life and career has been very beneficial. Sometimes hard. But those hard times made me strong. And I wouldn’t change it for anything.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well I play an instrument called the Talkbox. I’ve been able to master the instrument in which has landed me on some of the biggest records of our time. You’ve heard my work on Grammy award-winning songs and albums such as “24K Magic” by Bruno Mars, “Loyalty” by Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna, “May I” by T-Pain AND my personal repertoire of hit songs. (Too many to name). I’m a 4 time Grammy Award Winner & 2 Time Dove Award Winner for my Talkbox work. I’ve been playing this instrument for over 25 years now. My videos have gone viral on All social media platforms over the past 8 years. My work ethic is 2nd to none. And lastly, I am a very very nice guy to work with! LOL These are the things that set me apart form anyone. Right now I’m most proud of myself. I’ve persevered through so much. And in the words of Snoop Dogg: “I’d like to thank me.” Lol I’m just thankful that I didn’t give up on myself and those that have been depending on me. The way that I got to where I am today professionally has been through a lot of prayer and a lot of hard work. It definitely wasn’t easy, but I had a made up mind. I was determined. Nothing was and is going to stop me. My work ethic is so strong until I won’t even let myself stop me. That’s how I overcame things not being easy. Every challenge that came my way, I found a different way to make things happen. There’s a saying: “being broke made me rich.” What that means is when things was challenging I found ways to still accomplish the goals that I set out to accomplish. For example I recorded most of my records in my room. On a small computer and a not so good microphone. I took what I had and I made something out of it. The lessons I learned along the way is that I can do all things through Christ that gives me strength. I learned that through prayer and working hard really goes hand-in-hand. We just can’t pray and expect God to do everything. We have to get up get out and do something to give God something to work with. I want the world to know that “I am faith at its finest.” I want people to know that God can take anything and use it if you’re willing to do your part. No one thought that I would be an award-winning Talkbox artist. When I first started playing the The Box. A lot of people laughed at me. They thought I was crazy. But I don’t look so crazy now right? Lol I want people to know that they can do anything that they set the heart and mind on doing. You just have to believe & GO FOR IT!! Failure isn’t an option. Take failing as fuel for your passions. Know that God will do all that you cannot.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a pretty simple guy. So if I have a friend over for a week we will probably go to the movies multiple times, we would go to the bowling alley multiple times,we would go to this vintage arcade spot that has ALL the old games form the 80’s, we will get the best Hot Chicken in the city, we will go play basketball, and we will play a lot of card games at my house. We will definitely spend some time jammin in the studio and last but not least I would definitely do the best barbecue ever! Because my skills on the grill is a whole thrill! Lol I know it’s pretty simple but hanging out with me is fun trust me 😉
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely like to shout out my mom and dad for giving me the opportunity to learn music and learn about God. I also would like to shout out my wife of 24 years for her unconditional love and support of me during this journey. I would like to shout out my kids who has completely and unconditionally supported me in every season of my career. Without these people I probably would not be here. I would also like to shout out Phillip and Joyette Master. They helped launched Mr. Talkbox. They are a family to us and I’m so grateful for them for helping me become who I am. Big shout out to my brother Gary Chambers ll! I just want to thank him for his unconditional love and support. He spends his money he catch flights to come to his little brother shows all over the country. It really is a blessing and I’m so thankful to him. I’d like to thank all the fans that follow me. I am honored to serve everyone that has encountered what I do. Last but not least, I’d like to Thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus literally has been there for me through thick and thin. His unconditional love and grace really brought me this far. And I know that he will never leave me nor for sake me. There are many more that I’d like to give credit to but we’d be here all day/night. Lol
