We had the good fortune of connecting with Moraima Marrero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Moraima, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Baking has always been my passion but was placed on the backburner while I focused on my career in law. After retiring to focus on my family, the desire to bake was reignited when I couldn’t find a traditional Puerto Rican birthday cake for my daughter’s birthday and decided to make it myself. The cake was a hit and the sweetest surprise of it all is that people started placing orders with me after tasting it. I am thankful for the support and love from my community that has truly propelled my business to this point.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a passionate person by nature. I want beautiful cakes, exceptional flavors, and the best ingredients. I am drawn to clean designs, smooth sides, and sharp buttercream (my love language). I get excited to be part of someone’s special celebration and am honored when they trust me enough to recommend me to others. This journey has not been easy… My passion initially had me baking at midnight and saying yes to everything, but the hardest lesson I had to learn was that not everyone will be my client and that my family is my priority. You should know, I talk to all my cakes. I whisper sweet somethings to them, tell them how gorgeous they are, and send them off with love when our time is done. I want the world to know that when they receive a cake from me, they are getting my heart and soul wrapped up in buttercream.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would invite them over, ensure I had a glass of wine or champagne chilled and ready, request a nanny for the children, and we would bake, laugh, love and dream together.

If we were forced to leave the house, a nice stroll through beautiful gardens always delights my day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family deserves so much recognition. From my husband helping with deliveries and my children being my official taste testers, I am thankful for their unconditional love and support.
