We had the good fortune of connecting with Misty Jester and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Misty, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Traditional teaching methods often fall short in capturing students’ interest and fostering deep cognitive engagement. Recognizing this gap, I believe that integrating technology into the learning process can bridge the divide between academic content and student engagement.
This constant demand in our classrooms is what led me to establish TeacherTech.Tips. This teacher founded site is growing from a collection of shareable lessons and resources to so much more. I’m working to develop material that allows subscribers to unlock new content each month. These activities, templates, challenges, lessons, tech tips and more are technology focused but always rooted in best teaching practice.
My goal is to not only provide tips for teachers, but to equip them with innovative strategies that will have a positive impact on students and teachers alike.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a proud graduate from Texas A & M University! Whoop! I have over 15 years of classroom teaching experience in multiple grade levels and subject areas. I have served at several districts here in the great state of Texas as a classroom teacher, curriculum designer, and even a coach. While my master’s degree is in Curriculum and Instruction, I have a passion for educational technology
Currently, I am an Instructional Technology coach, a Google certified Trainer., and a National STEM coach with the National Institute for STEM Education.
I love supporting educators especially in navigating technology and it’s instructional applications for all subject matters.
I know how overwhelming it can be for teachers to provide high quality and engaging activities in the classroom. Teachers might fear the technology or feel ill-equipped to develop lessons/activities that involve technology.
I want to help bridge that gap between teacher comfort levels by providing teacher tech tips that are practical and easy to implement. I also want teachers to have ready to use activities that inspire interest while hitting the targeted learning objective.
I have a ton of free content that teachers are welcome to use. We will soon launch subscriber resources that are sure to level up student learning with new material each month. Stay tuned, this young company is just getting started!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you find yourself in downtown and want an authentic Texas steak dinner, you will want to hit YO Ranch Steakhouse. It’s seriously amazing!
For dessert go over to Deep Ellum and order a slice from Emporium Pies, be sure to get it al a mode.
Wanting some good drinks and a fun atmosphere visit the Harwood District downtown.
If you have the kids, you have to take time out to visit Medieval Times for dinner and a show, it never disappoints.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
HUGE shout out to all the educators out there doing their thing each and every day. Teachers are some of the hardest working people that consistently go above and beyond the call of duty to perform at high levels on the daily. Teacher Tech Tips would not exist without these incredible humans.
I would not have persuaded my passions for innovative technology if it wasn’t for my favorite person in the whole world, my husband, Greg. He has encouraged my every move and has always had unwavering faith in me.
Greg, thank you for being you, your calming presence and wise counsel have helped me navigate through obstacles and find solutions with clarity.
