We had the good fortune of connecting with Misty Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Misty, how does your business help the community or world?
This is an essential and beautiful question that I believe needs to be addressed consistently by anyone who has the intention of cultivating a life of purpose and connectivity, especially during these times. With each “check-in” I strive to lead by example, consistently tending my own garden, sincerely and with authenticity, towards the goal of helping to plant the seeds toward optimal mind-body wellness and a thriving collective.

Every micro-movement contributes to the macrocosm of our reality. Each step in the direction of supporting positive change in the self and others creates and maintains the soil, deepens the well, for a harmonious tomorrow. It is My Yoga Tao’s purpose to connect humanity more intimately with itself, at every level, by utilizing my own personal ever-evolving knowledge and life experience. Sometimes this is as simple as listening and really hearing. Sometimes it’s building a well.
Many of us have so much to share. I envision a world where we may empower each other to pull from the waters of potential that resides within us.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way? What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’ve been teaching yoga both privately and in group settings since 2010 and offering one-on-one Thai-Yoga Bodywork sessions since 2014. I recently became a licensed massage therapist, finding that each branch of practice I explore extends from the same tree, seamlessly and exquisitely weaving into and enhancing each other. I am proud of my exploration so far and I am excited to continue and deepen my search along other branches.

There, naturally, have been challenges. One challenge for me in my work has been wanting to do it all the same time, learn everything simultaneously. There is so much to be ecstatic about in life. For me, the interplay between the growth in my work and the exploration of myself is one of those things, seeking freedom and strengthening my ability to share that freedom. Discipline has been the tool by which I have been able to further that search, acknowledging the abundance of knowledge available to us in every moment and paying attention. Sometimes, it is play. The life lessons from my garden and my hands in the earth, learning a new language or instrument, sitting and writing with the first cup of coffee in the morning. Sometimes, it is work. Enhancing my practice and what I can offer by learning a new branch of study or deepening my knowledge from the well of connectedness and the interworking of our mental and emotional and physical self. Because of the nature of my business, work and play go hand in hand and I don’t take it for granted that this is a true luxury in my life.

I’ve learned a few things along the way. It is through relationship with others and the world that we really come to know ourselves. There is no perfect-self to strive for, but rather a continuous seeking of self-awareness and self development via the aid and empowerment of others. I’m learning that it truly does take a village, even if it’s a virtual one.

As my well deepens, I seek to consistently improve my services and, from time to time, have the ability to offer new services. For example, in the next couple of months, I am excited to be able to offer couples bodywork sessions, four-hand massage sessions, as well as teach basic and effective skills in both Thai yoga bodywork and massage that my clients can then take home and use on themselves, family, and friends. I’ll be updating my website and social media pages soon, stay tuned.
In that spirit also, I have been studying and implementing into my own life and practice the ideas of cognitive-behavioral therapy, a form of talk therapy for any age group used to assist those navigating their way through various challenges in life. This practical methodology equips people with the tools to become aware of and improve upon the confidence in the reliability of their thinking and the ability to recognize counterproductive patterns of behavior. I find this branch of the tree to play a powerful role towards the goal of lessening the weight of self-created suffering, breaking through limiting beliefs, building more empowering communication skills, and cultivating stronger and healthier relationships. I hope to be able to offer different and more accessible teaching platforms to convey my passion for this subject.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I’m not in the studio or inside the kitchen I usually find myself the happiest enjoying as much of Mother Nature as I can! If my best friend is down for me setting the complete itinerary, these are some of the things we may get ourselves into (in no particular order).

• Biking the Trinity River trails in Fort Worth or hiking around River Legacy Park In Arlington
• Rock climbing near Possum Kingdom Lake
• Playing tennis or badminton at a neighborhood park
• ZIP-lines in Trinity Forest Dallas
• Strolling around in the Japanese gardens of Fort Worth Botanical Gardens
• Looking for treasures at local thrift stores, and vintage shops. A few of my favorite shops are
Vintage Freaks in Hurst and Docs Records and vintage, and JunkerVals Antiques and Vintage in Fort Worth
• Hitting up a comedy club, like Four Day weekend in downtown Fort Worth
• Browsing the streets of Bishops Arts in Oak Cliff, and popping into Wild Detectives for a
drink and enjoying a live reading or music.
• Visiting the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas
•Take a drawing or painting class at The Creative Arts Center of Dallas
•Get in a movie or a live show at Historic Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff
•Check out some Art or do some yoga on the lawn at Artspace1111 in Down Town Fort Worth
•Sit in the middle of Sundance Square Fort Worth with a coffee and a game of chess
• Alwadi cafe (local Greek food) in Hurst
• Kalachanjiis or Cosmic cafe (vegetarian Indian food in Dallas)
• Righteous foods in Fort Worth
•Race street coffee in Fort Worth
At the house, we would sit in the garden with a glass of red wine and have long philosophical discussions, play music and sing by the fire, cook delicious meals, soak in the hot tub, play board games, shoot some bow and arrow, do some partner yoga, or give them some bodywork.

All right, so let’s jump right in! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love, and encouragement of others. So is there a person, group, organization, book, etc that you want to dedicate your shoutout to? Who else deserves a little credit and recognition in your story?
There are so many examples from my life of nurturing relationships to a person, a place, or a feeling that has meaningfully impacted my life and provided a container for my personal growth.

I would have to give this shout out to a place called the Moon Mansion. To some, also known as the Vortex. This was an old church near downtown Dallas bought by an incredible artist, Ashley Bellamy, in the ’70s and turned into a communal living space for artists and creatives. It was a mental, supportive, oasis in the middle of the seriousness and distraction of the city that allowed straight lines and judgment and modern-day expectations to fall by the wayside to make room for honest inspiration, insightful thought, and the environment to cultivate original expression and innovation.
This place was a spatial hub, both literally and figuratively, housing a plethora of people and personalities sharing community dinners, experiencing solitude, handling, and learning from situations, both blissful and challenging. We read and shared literature, opportunities, education, and wisdom, to more deeply experience our existence and explore the self.
