We had the good fortune of connecting with Misty Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Misty, how does your business help the community or world?
This is an essential and beautiful question that I believe needs to be addressed consistently by anyone who has the intention of cultivating a life of purpose and connectivity, especially during these times. With each “check-in” I strive to lead by example, consistently tending my own garden, sincerely and with authenticity, towards the goal of helping to plant the seeds toward optimal mind-body wellness and a thriving collective.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way? What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’ve been teaching yoga both privately and in group settings since 2010 and offering one-on-one Thai-Yoga Bodywork sessions since 2014. I recently became a licensed massage therapist, finding that each branch of practice I explore extends from the same tree, seamlessly and exquisitely weaving into and enhancing each other. I am proud of my exploration so far and I am excited to continue and deepen my search along other branches.
There, naturally, have been challenges. One challenge for me in my work has been wanting to do it all the same time, learn everything simultaneously. There is so much to be ecstatic about in life. For me, the interplay between the growth in my work and the exploration of myself is one of those things, seeking freedom and strengthening my ability to share that freedom. Discipline has been the tool by which I have been able to further that search, acknowledging the abundance of knowledge available to us in every moment and paying attention. Sometimes, it is play. The life lessons from my garden and my hands in the earth, learning a new language or instrument, sitting and writing with the first cup of coffee in the morning. Sometimes, it is work. Enhancing my practice and what I can offer by learning a new branch of study or deepening my knowledge from the well of connectedness and the interworking of our mental and emotional and physical self. Because of the nature of my business, work and play go hand in hand and I don’t take it for granted that this is a true luxury in my life.
I’ve learned a few things along the way. It is through relationship with others and the world that we really come to know ourselves. There is no perfect-self to strive for, but rather a continuous seeking of self-awareness and self development via the aid and empowerment of others. I’m learning that it truly does take a village, even if it’s a virtual one.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I’m not in the studio or inside the kitchen I usually find myself the happiest enjoying as much of Mother Nature as I can! If my best friend is down for me setting the complete itinerary, these are some of the things we may get ourselves into (in no particular order).
All right, so let’s jump right in! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love, and encouragement of others. So is there a person, group, organization, book, etc that you want to dedicate your shoutout to? Who else deserves a little credit and recognition in your story?
There are so many examples from my life of nurturing relationships to a person, a place, or a feeling that has meaningfully impacted my life and provided a container for my personal growth.
