We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, what principle do you value most?
Authenticity and Transperancy are important work and life principles to me. As a relationship therapist, I want my clients to know who I am from the get go. I want them to know who they are working with and what it is like for them to seek counseling from me. Working on one’s self and one’s relationship in therapy requires a significant amount self-reflection in order to bring about self-growth. It requires you to be real with yourself by identifying your strengths as well as shortcomings. That same process goes for a therapist. In order for me to be helpful to my client, I have to recognize what I am good at providing vs. what I am not good at and be transparent with people at the beginning of any potential work.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a marriage counselor and a trauma therapist. I help millennial couples and singles overcome various relationship issues in couples therapy, premarital counseling, dating counseling, and trauma therapy. I’m proud of myself for being able to build my private practice, a minority owned and women owned business, from the ground up. When I first came to the US about 18 years ago, I had never dreamt of having my own private practice and the opportunity to offer mental health services to the community. This journey has not been an easy one but it certainly is a worthwhile journey to embark on. I name my private practice The Therapist Within Counseling to reflect my belief that we all have that therapist within ourselves who is wise, compassionate, empathetic, and authentic. We all have that inner strength that helps guide us in becoming the best version of ourselves. I am passionate about helping millennials build healthy and fulfilling relationships. I want to help couples and singles make real, long-lasting changes for their lives and relationships.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my husband who has taught me how to love someone fiercely; to my sister who has been there for me through thick and thin; and to my EFT colleagues who have taught me to become a well-rounded therapist I am today.
