We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Oropeza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been in tuned with my artistic/creative side. Having a career focused on bringing creativity to life is why I love doing what I do. It’s being able to have so many different elements of art come together to form the final vision. I love being able to take different techniques, different colors and different styles and creating something magical out of it. Being able to brainstorm and come up with ideas and also collaborate with fellow artists and bounce off of each other shows art is limitless. I truly enjoy being able to tap into my artistic ability everyday I come to work.

What should our readers know about your business?
I truly am in awe everyday being in the event industry. I always learn something new, meet amazing other entrepreneurs and let my creativity flow. When I first started my business, I didn’t even know where to begin. I started juggling ideas on how to brand/market myself, what area of expertise I needed to learn, make a timeline of how I’d like my business to grow and execute the plan. I just knew I loved being able to bring different elements together to see the final result.

One of the main challenges I’ve encountered was prioritizing time. When I started my business I was taking 4-5 bookings a day, 2 times a weekend and burning myself out overtime. I realized that doing that, really took away extra time I could’ve been reinvesting into myself. It left no room for personal goals, no time for branding, establishing connections and nurturing more of the bookings I had. I want to always show up and out for my clients and to do that, I had to take care of myself first. I realized in order to grow my mind, my business, my art – time management is not a skill but a fundamental necessity. Once I was able to divide my time evenly, I was able to grow as a person and grow my brand as a business.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a big foodie! I love discovering the mom and pop shops, small boutiques and the most fun places!

A perfect week would consist of eating yummy foods in Carrollton, going to see my favorite EDM DJ’s in Dallas or hang out at La La Land Kind Cafe! I also love getting my favorite drink from Rocketbelly in Arlington and seeing the cool eras of life in Antique malls in Downtown Fort Worth.

Austin TX is also a staple weekend getaway! I go there 4-5 times throughout the year and just visit all the art murals, cool small shops and trying amazing restaurants!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest supporter will always be my husband Jesse. In the last 15 years we’ve been together, he has been the best partner in our personal and business life. He has been there throughout every single career change, every milestone, every obstacle and every accomplishment.

He nurtures our business so much – sometimes people don’t see it but he drives to our bookings in bad weather, he stays up late helping me when I need it, he carries all the heavy props/backdrops for our clients. He truly is the backbone of our relationship. He is the reason I got to build my whole business and live out my dreams. Everyday he challenges me to push myself and reach a new potential and goal I didn’t even know I can get to. We truly make the best team!
