We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, what’s the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
This is such a great question because along the way there are so many important lessons to learn. Things such as patience, the ability to continue after hearing no, and realizing that even though you do your absolute best not everyone will choose to do business with you (and trust me even some of your best or closest friends won’t). These and more have been such important lessons I’ve learned in my years of Real Estate but, by far the most important lesson I have learned is to “Amor Fati” which means to ‘Love Fate’. The phrase Amor Fati has been so important to me because when you hear that tenth “no thank you we are going with someone else” of the week I can trace back and say to myself that it was a great opportunity but next time I can tweak my pitch to sale myself or my product better. I will be honest this pandemic took almost all my Real Estate business away. I had so many buyers and sellers so scared that they decided to either hold off until this all goes away or stop their search completely. We talk about pulling the rug out from a business, I felt that. I recommend anyone in business when they find themselves in a dull period or contraction which you will be in at one point or another try and expand your business whether it’s a new skill or new direction these are the times to “test the waters”. I actually used that time to get my mortgage loan originator license. I saw people who would rather refinance then move. I remember thinking well I can’t just sit here and wait for a market change, so I went out found a class and now we are rocking and rolling! We need to take times like this to invest in ourselves more than anything.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Firehouse Real Estate Services was actually started by a firefighter who has since retired. A bunch of us are still working for your local fire departments such as myself and others are teachers, spouses of civil servants, and police officers. My broker would much rather us donate our money and be competitive in the market so he helps us with lower fees than most local brokerages! This freedom allows us to invest more in ourselves and what makes us unique and also allows us to save our heroes and their families thousands when buying or selling a house!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife has been a huge support is every part of my life. My advice to anyone is to find someone who supports not just the path your on but your wild dreams, especially if you are someone who is like me who like to test different waters to see how different things can be. Also all my brothers and sisters in the fire service I would not have the success I have without your trust and loyalty. Finally all my clients who believed in me because let’s be honest without y’all make everything worth it!
