We had the good fortune of connecting with Meredith Snow and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meredith, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am already a creative person at heart, and I needed something to do while in college. I knew I didn’t want to work full time and be a full time student as well. However, I didn’t want my parents to have to pay for every personal expense. One day I was on TikTok (I know shocker) and came across a video on how to make clay earrings. I thought, ‘Wow, I can make my own jewelry for myself,”, because let’s be honest it is rough being a broke college student. I literally hopped in my truck and headed to Hobby Lobby. That one trip turned into several different Hobby Lobby trips, because I was hooked! After lots of trial and errors, I finally figured out what worked for me. I made a few for myself, and posted the final products. Everyone was shocked with what I created and wanted me to make earrings for them too. I called my parents and asked if they would invest $60 for supplies for me to make a few earrings for family & friends. That day seems like a blur to me but it took off over night! That $60 turned into a very successful company.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Honestly, my company name is very catchy. I get a lot of compliments, and they immediately want to learn how I came up with the name and logo. Nothing really fancy, I just simply love cactuses. You get pierced by a cactus when touched, and you have to have your ears pierced to wear earrings. Hence The Pierced Cactus Co.

I am where I am today by not giving up. I set my goals each month and worked towards completing them. As I completed them I was motivated to keep building the business. I set up an online shop, attended markets, and even grew a brand rep team. Though out this past year I did run into some minor struggles, however I used my resources and pushed through. Giving up was not an option for me!

I have learned that building relationships is key to being a small business owner. The more people you know the more successful you will be. I also try to support local small business owners as well.

I want people to know that I am no different than them. I started small and worked my way up. I didn’t become successful overnight. Dolly Parton said “Find out who you are, and do it on purpose”. So, find your purpose and do it! Don’t let the world decide who you are and do what you love. Be who you want to be!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to the Fort Worth Stockyards. When I was in High School showing pigs, I attended the Forth Worth Livestock Show. I would definitely take them to the show, rodeo and then later that night go to the stockyards. We would stop off at Risky Steakhouse and would snag their calf fries.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It all started with my obsession of Dolly Parton. When I was a little girl my mom introduced Dolly Parton to me. At the time it was all about her music, but however as I grew older it turned into realizing that she was more than just a singer. I listened to her podcast interviews and learned about her classy business woman mindset. Not only was Dolly a huge factor, but also being apart of The Texas FFA Organization in high school. FFA taught me the leadership, organization and business skills that I now apply to my business.
