We had the good fortune of connecting with Melinda Monfort and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melinda, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
In the spring of 2019, I was working in the corporate world. For the previous 6 years, I knew the corporate world just wasn’t the right place for me. I loved accounting and taxes and have great work ethic but working for someone else just wasn’t it. After much thought and conversations with my husband, I decided to take a leap and turned in my notice. I was so scared I would fall face first and end up back in the same place. To this day, that was the BEST decision I have ever made in my career. I trusted God and my hard work and it has paid over ten fold.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My passion is small businesses and I am all about them! I currently own two small businesses that are both supportive to other small businesses. I love to be on the back side helping others with their success.
Accounting Firm: I’ve worked in accounting for 12 years. I started in the private sector but learned quickly that I enjoy working with different industries. I switched over to public accounting 7 years and there’s been no looking back. I enjoy crunching the numbers and helping small businesses grow! Last month, I was able to hire my first employee and I couldn’t be any more proud of myself and the determination I have put into what I’ve built.
Photography: I’ve been doing photography for over 12 years. My main focus in the early years was portraits and families. When I started my accounting firm, my photography business itself really took a back burner while I took the time to grow it. The end of last year, I really started to miss photography however I didn’t really want to get back into shooting families. I love travel photography but I don’t get to travel much with our sports minded family and 3 active kids. Then one day it hit me, branding and small business photography! There’s definitely a need with the number of small businesses that have started in the last 2 years. I love everything about branding shoots, getting to know other small businesses and being able to support them in another way, my creative side.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a sports minded person and family, we would have to go to a Texas Rangers game. After the game, stop by Rangers live and the PBR bar for a few drinks. We would spend another day at the Perot Museum and walking down to Klyde Warren park for some of the best food trucks in the area! Another day we would drive over the the Fort Worth Stockyards. The stop in at Billy Bob’s in the evening for some live music. Another day we would drive up to Lake Texoma and spend the day on the lake with the family.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family deserves so much credit in my story. My husband has always been supportive and told me to go for what I want. My mother has been by my side and all my crazy ideas. My kids for being my biggest cheerleaders. And my late grandfather, who taught me all about work ethic and how to never give up. Anything I want is only a decision away.
