We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Druery Allen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melanie, do you have a budget? how do you think about personal finances?
Yes, I have a budget. I recommend that every entrepreneur have one. There is 2 different ways that I budget. The first way is my business. It usually costs more each month to run a profitable business than it does for the bills at home, which is normal. The business budget should consist of all of your offers & how many of each you sell on a monthly basis. This should also show how much you made minus the fees that all payment gateways charge. Next, all of your business bills need to be listed by date & price. This helps you see profits vs loss every month. i encourage every entrepreneur to pay themselves at least once per month. Business & personal expenses need to be kept separate.

Lifestyle spending comes from what I pay myself & business purchases come from what my business profits each month.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Hype Marketing House, we pride ourselves on helping women grow their businesses. We work with the woman that’s already making money but she’s hit a barrier in her business & she needs the next steps to crush her goals. I write unique, creative strategies & campaigns. No two customers ever get the same strategy.

I learned about business from a family-owned business that I grew up in. I learned marketing & business hands-on so I took what I learned & brought it into the social media streets. There were many challenges along the way, I had to learn to trust myself. We can’t get to the next level of business thinking about failing or being paralyzed with fear of making the wrong decision.

I want people to know that you do not have to live by society’s standards of who they think you should be. As a mom to 6 babies, I’ve had every public assistance you can think of. I didn’t use it as a crutch, I used it as a stepping stone to get to the next level. Success is a daily decision that you must consciously get up every day & recommit to.

My goal is to create endless hype around micro-businesses while building generational wealth. It’s so important to teach our children what we weren’t able to learn. Our children should be able to stand on our shoulders starting out. We aren’t glorifying starting from the bottom anymore.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was visiting, I would take her out for food & drinks. If we don’t do anything else, we will make time to eat. We would definitely visit museums & places that we can learn from.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many to name that have helped me along my journey. I’ll start with my first two biggest impacts, LaQuonia Henderson & Nicole Mathews. They were my first mentors that really pushes me to think on a bigger level. I had to get out of my own way by changing my mindset. The next person would be Shana Robinson. She helped me rebrand my Marketing Agency. We were previously MDA Marketing Agency & we revamped it into Hype Marketing House. It was a long 8 months but we brought the brand of my dreams to life.
