We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
“Risk” is traditionally defined as the exposure to the possibility of loss or injury. But that definition evolves when you’re pursuing a dream or a passion. For me, risk is the bridge between the present and the incredible possibilities of the future.

It’s that leap of faith we take, grounded in belief and purpose. When you think of it that way, the shadow of loss recedes, and the excitement of potential gain replaces it.

Every time I pitched myself or stepped into unfamiliar territory, I did so, knowing that real growth and transformation often await just beyond the edge of comfort. And here’s the thing: When you genuinely believe in your mission, the fleeting sting of a setback is nothing compared to the exhilarating promise of what’s to come. So, risks? They’re not just hurdles; they’re invitations to greatness.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m an author, a storyteller, and a passionate advocate for the power of words. My journey began with my children’s book, “Words Are Magic.” This heartwarming tale teaches children the power of their words. Witnessing its rapid success, earning a gold level distinction by the Mom’s Choice Awards®, big-name partnerships, and features, has been a dream for a first-time author like me. And while I’m deeply proud of its achievements, I’m bubbling with excitement for what lies ahead – I feel there’s something grand waiting on the horizon.

I also wear another hat, that of a publisher, with RIPE Publishing House, where we provide a unique space for black, Christian, and inspirational authors. We’re not just publishing; we’re breaking barriers. Every author with us is valued, their voices amplified without being overshadowed by traditional industry gatekeepers. Our services, outside of publishing, including workshops, coaching, and branding, ensure authors can take their message even further.

Now, my most cherished venture is RIPE for Change, our non-profit initiative. Here, our primary objective is to illuminate the path for underprivileged youth, not just in reading and writing but fostering their entrepreneurial aspirations. A significant part of this initiative is the Young Writers Lab, where we sow the seeds of authorship. Through this program, these budding writers don’t just learn but walk away as published authors, experiencing firsthand the magic of creation.

Was the journey to where I am easy? Far from it. Every step had its challenges and hurdles. But as I always say, nothing worth having comes easy. The resilience, the unyielding spirit, and an incredible support system have allowed me to surmount every obstacle. Along the way, I’ve learned that passion and persistence can move mountains.

In summing up my story, I want the world to know this: I believe in the magic of words and the impact of a well-told story, and I’m here to ensure those tales get the platform they deserve. Whether it’s a child learning the power of their voice or a new author finding their footing, my mission is to be their guiding light every step of the way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

If my best friend were in town for a week, we’d soak in all my favorite spots in Fort Worth. I was able to come up with five days, good enough, ha!

Day 1: We’d start with a hearty breakfast in my neighborhood, followed by a refreshing walk in Trinity Park. Come evening, a must-visit is the Pho District downtown for the best pho and fried rice – a taste reminiscent of my childhood in Japan.
Day 2: The original Uncle Julio’s off Camp Bowie is an old-time favorite. After a hearty Mexican lunch, we could stroll to the Fort Worth Botanic Garden for floral beauty.
Day 3: A cultural day at the Kimbell Art Museum would be on the cards. A quiet afternoon in a local café, something like Black Coffee, a black-owned coffee shop with the best coffee in town.
Day 4: It’s time for a unique experience: the Cattle drive at Cowtown! It’s thrilling and an absolute must when in Fort Worth.
Day 5: A day trip to Sundance Square for shopping.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Firstly, my family has been the cornerstone of my journey. Their unwavering love and encouragement have been a constant, even when the road ahead seems daunting. My husband, life partner and fervent cheerleader reignited my spirit to plunge back into entrepreneurship. His faith in my vision often bolstered my own.

Then, there are my business partners, Jonathan and Tneisha. My brother, Jonathan — my confidant and an unwavering pillar of support. His intellect and insights have often paved the way when crossroads appeared. Tneisha continually serves as a beacon of inspiration. Her challenge to me wasn’t just about taking a leap of faith but an opportunity to soar to newer horizons.

Regarding books, the Bible has been a fountain of wisdom for me. Its timeless teachings and insights resonate profoundly, guiding my actions and intentions. Napoleon Hill’s works, “Outwitting the Devil” and “Think and Grow Rich,” were more than reads; they were transformative experiences. These books reshaped my perspectives and fortified my resolve.

And I must tip my hat to “Who not How” and “10X is Easier than 2X” by Benjamin Hardy and Dan Sullivan for gifting me invaluable insights into scaling visions and reimagining success.

I offer a heartfelt shoutout to all these incredible influences and so many others not mentioned here. They’re not just the wind beneath my wings but the currents that propelled me forward.
