We had the good fortune of connecting with Meagan Moseley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meagan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My background in fashion has taught me the value of secondhand shopping to satisfy my champagne taste on a beer budget. However, I often noticed that my shopping companions left with empty baskets, which raised the question: why?
I discovered that overwhelming options, poorly organized racks, cramped dressing rooms, and a discouraging atmosphere made it hard for them to see the potential in the pieces. This environment limited their desire to shop consciously and contributed to the cycle of fast fashion—buy, wear, toss, repeat.
This inspired the creation of ENSEMBLE SCENARIO: a curated, quality-focused secondhand shopping experience in a luxury, artistic setting. Our goal is to eliminate the guesswork in visualizing outfits by showcasing multiple styling options for each garment, helping clients discover their unique ENSEMBLE SCENARIO.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
ENSEMBLE SCENARIO represents the culmination of every dream job I’ve ever envisioned, and I’m beyond thrilled to bring it to life as the creative director of my own one-woman fashion house.
Launching a business in 2024 feels exhilarating, especially in an era where social media enables us to build meaningful, creative ventures while directly connecting with like-minded communities from anywhere in the world. Growing up, glossy magazines were my only window into the fashion world. Today, we have real-time access to fashion moguls and designers through platforms like TikTok. This new accessibility is transformative, allowing artists to showcase their work without traditional industry barriers—a hopeful and energizing shift for anyone aspiring to make their dreams a reality.
My journey began with a background in interior design, which eventually led me to hospitality and, ultimately, fashion. After college, I moved to New York City, eager to immerse myself in the industry through internships. However, I soon realized that my personality didn’t quite align with the fashion world’s fast-paced intensity. When a job I was promised fell through, I was crushed. Yet, I adapted, taking on roles in customer care for beauty and skincare brands, which rekindled my love for hospitality and problem-solving.
Returning to Texas was a turning point. The open skies and slower pace revived my spirit, and I cherished the simplicity of being home—bare feet in the grass, early springs, and car rides instead of subway commutes. My time in New York taught me invaluable lessons about boundaries, work ethic, and perseverance, which guides me now as I navigate motherhood and co-parenting.
I’d always desired creating a secondhand boutique: one that’s carefully curated, with an atmospheric vibe as cool as NYC but with unpretentious and accessible pricing for all. Garments strictly chosen for their cut, design, textiles, or timelessness—not crammed together, but thoughtfully showcased. That vision became a reality when I launched ENSEMBLE SCENARIO from my parents’ garage with my dad’s camera equipment 8 years ago. Though it ended after just a few months due to personal conflicts, I wasn’t heartbroken. I’d proven to myself that I could build my business—and when I was ready to do it again, it would be even more developed and aligned.
Motherhood soon became my focus, and I found a rhythm balancing fashion styling with waitressing at night, which suited my family. Now that my child is in first grade, and our blended family is on track, it feels like the right time to re-debut ENSEMBLE SCENARIO.
Today, ENSEMBLE SCENARIO calls Chaos to Couture in Fort Worth home. It’s more passion project than business venture, with a vision for organic growth while staying true to the curated secondhand pieces I love, and trusting the process. My goal is to create an experience for my clients, one that is an extension of my art, while also using my methods to teach and inspire my clients to think outside the box, and to enjoy the process of dressing.
Every day brings challenges—that’s life. But I believe honesty, kindness, and authenticity pave the way forward. Pursue your dreams as if no one’s watching, and don’t forget to celebrate every step along the way!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Of course, we’d kick things off by flying into Love Field in Dallas, where we’d start our adventure with lunch and an espresso at Eatzis. It’s the perfect spot for a laid-back yet delicious meal to fuel us up! Then, we’d head over to Genesis Thrift Store on Knight Street to hunt for hidden gems and vintage treasures.
After all that treasure hunting, we’d check in at the Joule Hotel and recharge with a much-needed nap before dinner at Hillstone. We’d order margaritas to sip on while sharing some of their famous ribs as an appetizer. For the main course, it’s all about the burger, the Hawaiian steak, and two sides of their irresistible braised cabbage.
The next day, we’d get active with a walk along the scenic Katy Trail to kickstart our energy. After getting cleaned up, we’d dive into some shopping at Curiosities in Lakewood before heading to Awshucks for lunch—ceviche and oysters are a must! Then we’d stroll over to Buffalo Exchange to do some thrifting, and stop by the Corner Market for a snack and an americano to fuel up for the rest of the day.
Our next stop would be NorthPark Center, where we’d explore one of Dallas’ most stylish shopping destinations. The minimalist, artistic vibe there is the perfect backdrop to admire some of the best clothes in town. We’d wrap up the evening with pizzas from Eataly and a movie at the AMC.
The following morning would begin with a visit to the Nasher Sculpture Center, where we’d soak in the stunning architecture, gardens, and world-class art. After a relaxing afternoon, we’d treat ourselves to massages at the Joule Hotel spa to fully unwind. The evening would end at Hudson House, where we’d enjoy Happy Hour and indulge in their famous Chicken Parmesan, followed by a delicious Key Lime Pie for dessert.
Next, we’d head to Fort Worth, and of course, I’d take you to Chaos to Couture, where ENSEMBLE SCENARIO is located. I’d show you the shop and some of the amazing pieces I’ve curated. We’d play dress-up and have a little photoshoot to capture the memories of our time together. Then, we’d swing by my parents’ house for a lovely homemade lunch by my mom. We’d chat while admiring their perfectly manicured backyard.
Afterward, we’d pick up my son from school and head over to Cidercade for a fun tournament of arcade games. Then, we’d grab dinner at Bella’s Café for my favorite Italian in the city. We’d call it an early night and get some much-needed rest.
On our final day, we’d visit the Modern Museum’s beautiful gardens and explore their latest exhibitions. Afterward, we’d grab a dirty chai from Amperstand to recharge before hitting the racks at Flipstone Vintage for some one-of-a-kind finds. A stop by Doc B’s Record Store would be next, where we’d pick up some quirky, rare vinyl. For an early dinner, we’d head to Tricky Fish, waterside, to feast on crisp Sauvignon Blanc, fried green tomatoes, shrimp cocktail, and their fabulous Caesar salad.
Before heading back to Dallas, we’d have a leisurely breakfast at Snooze, where the Pork Verde Benedict is a must-try. Then, we’d jet off to Love Field, saying our goodbyes until next time!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom, Pixie, deserves immense credit. She’s been a quiet but unwavering force in my life, gently pushing me to explore beyond my comfort zones since I began my journey in fashion. Her encouragement has always come in the form of subtle yet powerful nudges, and her calm, collected support from the sidelines has been a constant source of strength. I feel incredibly fortunate and grateful to have someone so steadfast in my corner.
I also want to give a huge shoutout to New York City. In the early days of my fashion career, the city’s blend of whimsy and grit left a lasting impression on me. It’s a place where every breath and experience feels electric, and that energy propelled me to solidify my artistic vision. Living there accelerated my growth, taught me to trust my instincts, and shaped my core ethics, clarifying what I was willing to stand for. Enduring the challenges of New York was one of the most transformative gifts I’ve given myself—a priceless foundation that continues to inspire me through every adventure.
