We had the good fortune of connecting with McKenna Kasowski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi McKenna, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have been a dreamer and a writer ever since I can remember. Every single society since the dawn of time has had some form of creative expression; which is proof that creativity is innately human and necessary. I hope to leave a lasting legacy with my music and art.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud that I have been sustaining myself solely with my art for a little over two years now. Of course, this hasn’t been without challenge, but it is truly an entrepreneurial feat as an independent musician! I look forward to tackling future challenges as well and growing my business.

I am currently working on a genre-bending collection of songs that I’ve affectionately coined “Cosmicana.” “Cosmicana” is a play on the music genre “Americana” and encompasses the ethereal nature of the songs included on the project. The new music sounds truly unique, like something coming from the cosmos; and I hope it inspires other creative people to step outside of their comfort zones.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would hit up the Trinity Trails in Fort Worth for a day of hiking, then head over to Magnolia Motor Lounge for a night of great music. I would also be sure to take them to shows at the Kessler Theater and the Studio at the Factory in Dallas – both venues are always featuring great indie acts.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shoutout Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines. Both Terri and Lloyd have been and continue to be huge inspirations to me (and many, many others) ever since I was a kid, just beginning to write songs. Not only did they encourage me to keep playing, they also taught me the importance of celebrating creativity as a whole. They helped me land an intro scholarship to South Plains College’s Commercial Music Program, from which I graduated with honors in 2019. This opened up my eyes to an entire industry of music related careers, and has greatly assisted me in my current endeavors.
