We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Gilbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, is there something you believe many others might not?
Have you ever heard the saying “If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself”? I hate to admit it, but this was a mantra I would tell myself daily during the early days of building my business. It wasn’t until I was at the end of my rope completely burned out that I admitted I couldn’t do everything alone. Those were long tough days filled with exhaustion and disappointment. As a doctor and business owner, I served the patients, managed the staff, and tried to grow my business all at the same time. While some of these things were getting done, none of them were getting done well. It wasn’t until I admitted my limitations and delegated parts of my business to team members with aligned visions that we began to succeed. I learned that owning a business should be about creating a business rather than creating a job for myself. By shifting my focus to building a business with its own systems, protocols, and culture I was creating fewer jobs for myself and more jobs for others. Those jobs brought opportunity and prosperity to people who needed it. So, learn more about your strengths, your weaknesses, and what you enjoy doing within your business. Find what comes naturally to you with easy success and focus on how you can do more of that. Surround yourself with people different than you, inspire them, train them, and then trust them to do their job better than you can. If they can’t, then continue training until they get it or get out. The greatest gift any entrepreneur can give the world is not just a service to a customer, but rather a business filled with a team serving the entire world.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Back & Body Clinic is a Primary Care Medical Practice providing family and physical medicine with an integrative team approach that includes Board Certified Family Practice Physicians, Doctors of Chiropractic, and Family Nurse Practitioners working together to provide whole-person healthcare. In order to accomplish this more effectively, at the beginning of 2020 we partnered with UT Southwestern Health and Texas Health’s comprehensive network of providers and moved into our new state of the art 4300 sqft clinic across the street from Medical City Lewisville. To learn more about us, please visit our website at www.backbodyclinic.com, visit us on Facebook or Instagram, or read our hundreds of positive reviews on google or demandforce.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since we spend most of our time in the Lewisville area, I’d recommend spending the day in Old Town. You can enjoy breakfast at Seven Mile Cafe, stroll the Wayne Ferguson Plaza in front of City Hall, have coffee at Perc Coffeehouse, and then finish the evening with a show at the MCL Grand Theatre. Many of the local suburbs of Dallas/Ft Worth have revitalized their Main Streets, and Lewisville is one of the best.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, there would be no success without the love and support of my wife, Rachael Gilbert. As iron sharpens iron, Rachael has loved me and challenged me to grow and develop into what I am today. Any success worth mentioning would not be possible without her. Professionally, one of the most eye-opening books about entrepeneurship is The E-Myth by Michael Gerber. The E-Myth helped me learn the proper perspective of owning a business and not just a job for myself. I also highly recommend Entreleadership by Dave Ramsey, Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson, How Successful People Lead by John Maxwell, and From Dream To Destiny by Robert Morris.
