We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary McDonald and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mary, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking has played a huge part in my life in more of a bi-proxy manner. When my boss Lindsey Vinson took a risk on hiring a single mother of young children who needed an adjusted schedule to be Brand Manager of Healthy Planet Products, he could not have been sure of what the outcome would be. It was a huge risk on his part, giving me so much creative freedom in all aspects of the business while seeing that traditional corporate America could not and would not accommodate what I would need to be successful in this role, simply because they did not have to. Lindsey, looks for the value in people and products and does what ever is needed to support the success and growth of both. Just like acquiring a line of products that we can be confident in knowing they will do their job and help us do our part in being earth friendly while limiting the amount of harmful ingredients we expose our loved ones to.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a brand manager of a company I can be proud to have my name attached to seeing it grow from the ground up in front of my eyes is proving to be so amazing. I am so thankful to be in the position that I am in, thanks to the risk that was took to get me here by my boss. I think one thing that sets Healthy Planet Products apart is that we conduct business with integrity we truly work hard each and everyday to make sure that our products will be a staple in years to come and we can continue to be proud of them. The fact that we value everyone who trusts us enough to use our products to have us in their homes is truly something we value and want to prove that we are worthy of. When you are in an environment where you are heard and appreciated it makes it easy to give your all each day to make sure that your brand is the best that it can be. One thing I would like our company to be recognized for is that we set out to find products that are good stewards to the planet, safe for families, reasonably priced and perform well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well-being a native DFW I truly feel attached to it. I love my city, and I am so proud to be a Texan. I would say it is not truly a visit to Fort Worth without a stop at the iconic Joe T. Garcia’s the best Mexican food around, I always say the only way that tortilla soup is so good is because they must add love. We are home to some very good and high-end steak houses, yet the best in town has to be the Star Café in the Stock Yards it has a rib eye that would bring you to your knees, far more reasonably priced than the fancy places with a dress code, tastes a lot better too. It is housed right above the Basement Bar which is a good time on any night. I would say beyond that just to stop sight see and really enjoy the people, there are so many people from so many walks of life here in DFW, yet all are so welcoming and warm that is by far the best thing about our city and Texas in a whole. 7th street, Botanic Garden and Sundance Square are so fun to explore. A visit to the Kimball Art Museum is never disappointing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Lindsey Vinson, without his support and willingness to see past obstacles and see potential and work ethic in me, I would not be where I am today. Trusting me with such a big part of his business was a game changer for me.
