We had the good fortune of connecting with Marquis Parks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marquis, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It started more as a hobby and experiment, than me waning to start a business.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I went to Minnesota State, studied graphic design and photography with secondary concentration in drawing. But the university was teaching me to work for companies, design logos, labels, packaging ect. That is not what i wanted to do so i tried freelancing with design and the with photography but not was not much fun nor rewarding. A friend of mine saw designs and illustration i had on my computer (that I have been making for fun over the years) and suggest I start a clothing line. So I did, i saw @rawelements post he was having a fashion show so i hop on it, Kreative Klothing did surprisingly well, and the propelled me into turning a hobby into a business, a clothing brand now known as Kreative Klothing.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would hit up III forks for steak and seafood for good dinner, then velvet taco to close the night with some good tacos. Bars would mostly be uptown bar hopping but of course that would be after one of the Pop-up events that Kreative Klothing is featuring that weekend. Everything is exciting about the city of Dallas there is always something fun to do from going eat at the food trucks at Kylde Warren Park to bar hopping in Deep Ellum stopping by Vidorra or Serious Pizza.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
