We had the good fortune of connecting with Madeline Montes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madeline, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Starting this journey and trying to find balance in my work and personal life has been something I have learned to juggle these past 3 years. I started my business while still working a full time job at a vet clinic and let me just say, it is definitely a challenge I didn’t know I was signing up for! I have had a few learning curves on the way but I have realized making sure I have time for myself and my family is beyond important. You hear people say that you get away from working a 9-5 to end up working 24 hours in a day. That definitely can become a reality if you let it. Having that balance is important!!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Like any small business owner or creative, getting to where we are at this moment has not come easy. From the get-go you don’t know who you are in this industry or what you really want. It took me over a year to find my groove, artistry and brand. I didn’t really know what I was striving for but after that year my juices started flowing and I wanted more. I decided to invest in myself and invest in my brand, my business. I have learned from people who have been doing this way longer than I have but I still have so much more to learn! The most challenging thing for me I think has been comparing myself to the well known artist that have been around for some time. Social media can either make you or break you. I am still learning to go at my own pace and be my most authentic self. I want people to know me as a friend not just a person who takes photos. I am here to capture the most special moments in life and I want to be there by your side cheering you on.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Where to even start! Me personally, I am a super eat and chill type person so I would just want to go to the tastiest burger joint or sushi pace. I am lactose intolerant so I am super picky where I can eat but lately, I’ve loved Omi Sushi in garland and Dell’s homemade burgers in Richardson. I recently visited Ricky’s Hot Chicken in Richardson because their chicken is dairy free! I definitely vouch for any kind of karaoke night or taking a stroll down Legacy Hall (of course to get some food!)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband. He encouraged me even before I took the leap of faith of starting my own business. I had no idea his words of affirmation were what I needed to believe I was even capable of starting a business. Never in a million years did I see myself where I am today! My husband continues to push me and motivate me to keep going when I feel like throwing in the towel. He is my biggest fan!
