We had the good fortune of connecting with Macy Muzljakovich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Macy, what do you attribute your success to?
Consistency. I have found that no matter what, if I consistently post on social media, consistently update my website, and can maintain a consistent experience for my clients, it will keep everyone coming back for more. I would say that 90% of my clients are repeat clients because they know exactly what they’re going to get from me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been a working photographer for over 10 years. When I originally set out, I desperately wanted to be a fine artist so I went to school to work as a fine art photographer. Thanks to my amazing mentors and support system, I came to realize that I didn’t quite love the art scene and wanted something a little more objective, so I continued my education and earned my MBA with a concentration in marketing. I chose to work in the corporate world and I shoot in my downtime and on the weekends. I’ve learned to love this approach but it’s a grueling one and I’ve struggled to maintain my work-life balance.

Owning a business while working full time for another company forces you to put your life into perspective and pick and choose who and what you want to spend your time on. Thankfully I’m still young and without children so I have an excess of free time, but as I get older I have decided to put myself first. Some days that means saying no to dinner with friends to sit on the couch and edit, or turning a client away because I would rather attend a party..

So long as you can maintain a love for what you do and deliver a consistent product then you’re on the right track. Once you get flustered or lose quality then it’s time to reassess your priorities and make a few hard decisions.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Grapevine! I’m a wine drinker myself and the restaurants down there are incredible so I’d book us some rooms at Hotel Vin, dinner at Chez Fabian, and then drinks out at Chill. If we have time, I’d take them down to Denton to my old stomping grounds and hit up Harvest House or East Side for food trucks and a good crandangler (summer beer with a shot of deep Eddie’s)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, Greg, is the reason I can pursue my photography career and has been my number one cheerleader these past two years. He celebrates with me when I’ve had an awesome shoot and listens when I’ve had a hard day. I would not be anywhere near where I am today without him.
