We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyndsay Burnett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lyndsay, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always been an artist and after spending 15 years working in the medical field, I decided to jump off the deep end and try my hand at being my own boss. While working in a hospital was a very rewarding job,
I was diagnosed with a rare brain malformation at 30 and I had to leave the medical field due to my health. I wanted to do something that was rewarding for me as well as my client and photography was a natural fit.
Photography had been a passion of mine since I was 9 years old, Hiding away from the world in my grandfather’s study, surrounded by years of national geographic magazines. Seeing the moving images of strong women from all over the world gave me the idea that I could be the woman behind the glass, capturing strong women for the next generation to look up to.
Now here I am almost 3 decades later, living my dream!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The thing that sets my business apart from others is that my business is me. My face, my personality all is part of my business. When you book Wandering Summit Photography, you are booking an experience. It is my goal to make the photo session memorable and moving, Photographs are a frozen moment in time. But what I have found is we remember the photo session differently when there is a connection to the moment.
When a client arrives for their photo session, I strive for empowerment and positive reinforcement so that the client feels emboldened confidence during the session. This creates a memorable experience that boosts self esteem and how one sees themselves.
Being a business owner has had so many struggles. I have a science background, not business. So I have had to learn everything on my own. But that just seems to make the journey that much sweeter. I have worked for everything I have and have not had any financial backers to get me where I am today. I have learned that persistence is key to success. Do what you love and you will never truly work a day in your life.
I am blessed enough to be able to wake up every day here in Las Vegas NV and create moving images of strong, fierce, unique people. That to me, is the most beautiful part of it all.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is Vegas baby! There is literally any food you want within delivery distance! If you are down on the strip, I would suggest Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen in the Linq hotel. Everything I have had on their menu has been amazing! Coming to visit Vegas means you HAVE to walk the strip at night. The fountain at the Bellagio is phenomenal, the street performers are always bringing something new to the strip!
Then after the night on the town, there is the breathtaking valley of fire a short driver away from Vegas. Take a drive down a desolate road surrounded by deep red rocks. Or visit the neon museum where all the historic signs from a bygone era of Las Vegas and have you picture taken next to the glittering lights.
If glittering lights is your thing, Take a spin around the skyline on the High roller. The current world’s tallest Ferris Wheel. Rising 550 feet of the city floor, the High roller provides unmatched views of the city. An absolute must see sight.
The shows in Vegas are starting up again June 1st so there will be MUCH more to see and do again soon!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout out goes to my husband, Levi Vanschoiack. He has been such a strong supporter of my art and my dreams. He is also an artist and knows the importance of speaking your truth through art. He is a veteran of the Iraq war, a best selling author, a long distance hiker and a recycled medium artist. I do not see how I could be where I am today without the love and support of such a talented person as Levi at my side.
