Meet Lizette Barrera: Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lizette Barrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lizette, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Depends on the situation. If it’s toxic, leave it, unsure give it a break, and if you love it and it’s a healthy one keep doing it!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m in the development stages of an Omnibus feature with 4 other Texas Latina Directors as well as finalizing my second-draft of my debut feature film CHICLE. (GUM). I’m also busy applying to grants and freelance gigs.  I have gotten where I am today by the gratitude of many mentors and colleagues. Nothing has been easy. Time, prioritizing, exercising, eating more of an animal-based low carb diet has honestly helped me think clearer.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m such a foodie all my closest friends/family know this about me. So I’d take them to some of the following:  Tin Cup (Sandwiches ) Tandoor (Indian) Kabob House (Persian) Hurtado BBQ (Mexican/American) Tipsey Oak (American) Division Brewing (Beer) or  Legal Draft House (Beer)

To hang out, I’d take them out to Fort Worth, either Magnolia (Maggie) or Main street area. For Dallas it’d be Bishop Arts Area or to Deep Ellum.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate this shout out to my parents, my ancestors, and my loved ones who have always raised me to not only believe in my dreams but to go after them. They’ve been the backbone to my success, mentality, and sanity.
