We had the good fortune of connecting with Leslie Nepveux and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leslie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After having her second child, Leslie quit her job to take extra maternity time off. The planned 6 months turned into a year and helped solidify the desire for a more autonomous work environment. She had worked in several firms across 3 states and had over 12 years of experience in residential and commercial architecture at this point. A home remodel and addition project came about through friends and then projects just kept coming in. Enough work was coming in that she decided to make it a real business and hasn’t looked back.

Nick had started an architecture practice with 5 other partners and after 4 years it had grown from only 6 partners to 6 partners and 20+ employees. It was successful but busy and stressful and had moved beyond the size Nick was comfortable with. So in November 2021, Nick joined Leslie at VeuxDeux Design.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We value the initial design process where we hear the client(s) needs and wants and turn that into real, usable spaces. It’s like putting together a puzzle, but we aren’t given all the pieces. That’s why you want to hire us or any architect. We fill in the pieces that you may not think about.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love to support local. Especially local dives in Lower Greenville and Lakewood like Cosmos, Cock and Bull, Sasa Sushi, and Times Ten Cellars. The Dallas Arboretum and White Rock Lake are also great places to explore in the city with friends and family.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Getting involved in the AIA Dallas Women in Architecture network helped Leslie have the confidence and support to make the business successful. The community of like-minded professionals who support all types of architecture practice in the Dallas area boosted Leslie’s confidence in continuing the work she had started.
