We had the good fortune of connecting with Lena Timmons and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lena, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson I have learned while in business is, patience. There was so many times I wanted things to happen fast and within my timeline…and it never did. Because, things will happen when it’s meant to regardless if it’s a day, a week or two years from now. Keep going, it will happen.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As most artist, the road I travel is very much unorthodox and never simple, straight or easy. The steps I’ve taken start as most designers… I went to college, got my BFA in Fashion Design & Merchandising. My last year of college I registered my business and did an 8 look collection (which still has some of my best selling items). I have been pushing and trying to figure my way through this industry every since. There has been many challenges, I just kept my mind focused on the goals I had and it seemed to always work out. My brand has kept me on my toes and my creativity fresh. And when people buy my brand they have to know, I’m the one making the pieces. I like to have control over the quality in my clothing.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am at the moment living in San Antonio, Texas. Most people who come here to visit go to the riverwalk or at&t center to see the spurs play. But, I’m a big foodie… so, I’m thinking “The Jerk Shack”!! There may n cheese and jerk chicken is bomb!!! Just to chill and hangout, I’d go to “The Pearl”
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to recognize my husband Christopher. He has always encouraged me to go for what I want and to take risk. Even when I doubt myself and question the crazy ideas I come up with. He has never said, “don’t do that”. Its always been, “when are you going to start on it?”. I love him for it.
