Meet Lawrence G. Norman | Legendary DJ & Senior Graphic Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lawrence G. Norman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lawrence G., where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am originally from New York, born in the Bronx and grew up in Queens where I was fortunate enough to be a part of and experience the birth of hip hop. From dee-jaying, rocking the mic, breakdancing & graffiti writing I have always had a love and respect for the culture. At a young age it was also discovered that I God-given talent for drawing and creating. I went on to study art from grade school to earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts with a minor in Graphic Design. I have owned my own ad/creative agency and worked in Corporate America as a professional Graphic Designer as well as a DJ for over 4 decades keeping with the same principles and passions that I had when I first began.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My artwork as a Professional Graphic Designer that has set me apart has been viewed as what I call the 3 c’s: cultural, creative & colorful. On the DJ side I have been called a “Master of the Mix!” I have remained to stay relevant in both my music & art throughout the years by continuing to keep up with the current trends and technology yet maintaining certain principles and passions that I had from back in the day. I am excited to announce that I released my first single this year as an Artist called, “My Favorite Story” and it is a total expression musically of who I am. I have performed locally at The House Of Blues in Dallas and Ruins in Deep Ellum as I have decided to pursue my love for the music full-time! I have had many opportunities through the years but I have always felt that I have never reached the pinnacle of success until recently. I have overcome challenges by having a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and have learned that it’s okay to ask Him for the desires of my heart, be anxious for nothing and just “enjoy the ride.” Everyone in this life has a story and as long as we have breath in our bodies I believe we have the ability to reach our higher selves to share and tell our story if we strive for it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite city in Texas to go hangout is Austin. I just love the vibe there! The people there just seem to be free-spirited and stress-free in my opinion. It is definitely a place where music and art thrives and I believe it would suit me well if I lived there. I also consider myself a “foodie” who loves a good restaurant, bar, lounge or food truck. I would say you have to check out Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, Home Slice Pizza, St. Elmo Brewing Co. & Spicy Boy’s Fried Chicken (Food Truck outside & behind St. Elmo’s). The Hyatt Hotel on Barton Springs (next to Lady Bird Lake). If you’re a music/vinyl lover you have to check out Waterloo Records. Last but not least AO Tours Austin & Hill County Bus Tour for great sight-seeing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to first acknowledge my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as the Holy Bible has been my guide and correction in life, Next, I would like to shout out and recognize my wife Gina, my children; Lawrence II & Lauryn for all of their love and support.
