We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, what do you attribute your success to?

The most important factor behind my own success and the success of my brand, The LaLaPow Agency, is the ability to tune in to what lights individuals up and to create the “spark,” or the matrix, that will optimally amplify another’s brand and to make it stand out above the rest.

I named my company “LaLaPow” to make it obvious that we bring energy to the party! Creativity runs deep within my team, along with a pervasive high-level skill to create a highly effective plan that delivers that “pow.” We bring the “fireworks” to help our customers, including small to mid-size business owners, both local and national, achieve the success they desire. Their success is our success! One of the biggest compliments we receive is when our customers refer to us as their “secret weapon.”

I’d say another success factor is resilience. I became a young widow when my daughters were 3 and 6 years old. That was a very difficult time in my life; yet, being a mother was motivation to “keep on going.” First, it was for them, and eventually, it was for me.

The third success factor is the ability to quickly gain a holistic understanding of our clients’ challenges. I like to say I have an “artist’s heart,” yet a whiteboard for strategy in my brain!

Thanks to my Dad, an engineer, and sculptor in his free time, I seem to have inherited that right brain-left brain approach and I apply it to my business and creative projects.

I’m a bit of a nerd–I do have a science background after all–but I’m also fascinated by the psychology of media and marketing and the impact it has upon human behavior.

I’m able to “tune in” to the voice of my inner artist when presented with a concept and then create an executable integrated media strategy around it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Essentially, we are a boutique full-service digital marketing agency. And we make things happen!

LaLaPow is a woman-owned, Austin-based boutique marketing agency, focused on producing meaningful and impactful integrated marketing campaigns for our clients. We specialize in content and social media strategy, brand identity, web design, video production, public relations, digital marketing, and more. We partner with businesses to deliver digital experiences that amplify their brands and create compelling connections with real-world consumers. From concept to grand entrance. From strategy to technology. From “this brand has potential” to “this brand has POW!”

We are intentional, intuitive, invested innovators. We live to serve up awesome creative content for brands we love. We hone in on what makes your brand stand out and help it outshine the rest. We have curiosity at our core!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I lived in Dallas many years before relocating to Austin, so of course, I have favorite spots to dine, have fun, and hang out.

I love the quaint area of Knox Henderson. Toulouse is lovely for a light French-inspired lunch. Travis Walk has Park Cities Personal Training, owned by my good friend Jimmy Campbell. He was once dubbed the “Toughest Trainer in Dallas” by D Magazine. He’a amazing at what he does and has a great heart.

I adore my hairdresser, Gary Buckmeister, who is at the Salons of Dallas at Knox. The best! Northpark Center (we used to call it Northpark Mall back in the day) holds many great memories as I used to take my children there, dine and shop there (Neiman Marcus and other fine shops).

I also love Highland Park Village for more wonderful noshing and shopping. The Arboretum is lovely, as is walking around White Rock Lake.

The antique malls in downtown McKinney and shops in Forney hold a special draw for me. I’ve spent many hours searching for the perfect items.

I’d be remiss not to mention that a day trip to Ft. Worth is a must, where real-life cowboys can still be found. Plus, I’ve always had a fascination for the West. My uncle was a cowboy television “star” on the series, The Big Valley. Even while growing up in upstate New York, before moving to Texas in high school, I still recall being around him while he wore his cowboy boots and western vest. I was already “sold” on all things Texas before moving here!

Okay, back to food. Of course, I have to mention Tex-Mex. Searching for the perfect margarita along with chips and salsa on the weekend is just what one does when visiting the Big D! So, when advising on places to explore in the DFW area, I would have to create an open-ended itinerary–and then follow the spontaneous route!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve had so many wonderful mentors in my life. College professors, parents of friends who encouraged me to reach for excellence in all that I do, business owners I worked for in my 20’s, directors, talent coaches.

Yet, I’d like to give a “shout out” to Dan Bennett, Regional VP in the Dallas and Houston areas for Cumulus Media. You see, I had a Bachelor of Science Degree in nutrition in my back pocket and was a bit of a fitness “personality” in the DFW area when I met Dan. He was the program director for KLIF Radio at the time, and I was asked to sit in as host of a local talk radio show while the fitness celebrity who normally hosted it took off for the holidays.

On a cold, icy Saturday, I walked in and sat down in the studio, where I had only been a guest a few times. Dan was there–I didn’t know he was the program director–and I proceeded to host the show–taking calls, etc. The next week, Dan offered me the opportunity to host my own radio talk show that would be broadcast to a five-state area. “BodyTalk” was the name of my show–and, in the beginning, each week, Dan was there in his office, listening to my show, taking notes, coaching me, teaching me this business of LIVE talk radio. His influence impacts me to this day. He taught me the “hows and whys” of effective communication as a talk radio host and producer.

Later, I easily slipped into the world of television as a host and expert guest on numerous shows. With LIVE experience I was able to be nimble and quick and adapt to a variety of media environments. I’ve been honored to have been a host for various national television series, a spokesperson for national brands, and a guest on radio, television, and podcasts. That “gift” Dan gave me kept on giving.

With my business, I have the great pleasure of working with some of my customers on how to be their very best on camera and on air. It’s one of my favorite things to do. Thank you, Dan. You never know how one can impact a career–and a life.
