We had the good fortune of connecting with La-Shawnda Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi La-Shawnda, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want my legacy to give people hope and point them back to God.. I hope people remember me as someone who dedicated her life to helping women, especially single mothers, realize their full potential and God-given beauty. Through my work as a transformation specialist, speaker, author, artist, and ministry leader, I aim to inspire others to embrace their true identity and find beauty in their process. I want to be remembered as someone who made a tangible difference, not just by enhancing outer beauty but by nurturing inner confidence and faith.
I also want to leave a lasting legacy for my daughters and God’s sons and daughters, letting them know that they have value and are royalty. My favorite saying is, “Keep your head up so your crown won’t fall,” and I want everyone to know that God has a plan for their life according to Jeremiah 29:11.
I believe that God can take your mess and turn it into a message. Every test you go through is built for a testimony. There’s nothing too hard for God and no problem, issue, or situation that He can’t get you out of. I want my life to be a living epistle that shows God is able if you trust Him.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’d love to share more about my journey and work! As author and speaker, and the founder of Women of Fire Ministries, my mission is to help women discover their God-given identity and reach their full potential. What sets me apart is my commitment to empowering women, especially single mothers. I believe in the power of God, His word will transform you from the inside and out. I’m a living witness he gave me beauty for ashes. I was homeless for two years survived a tragic divorce, abandonment, rejection, betrayal,. But God took my pain and gave me purpose
Two things I’m most proud of is the impact Women of Fire Ministries has had on countless women. Through our ministry , we’ve helped single moms transition from merely surviving to truly thriving. Seeing these women discover their strength, build self-esteem, and achieve their goals is incredibly rewarding.
Second I’m really proud of my daughters, Emiyah and Emani Thompson. They’re influencers and the founders of the “Emani and Emiyah Favorite Play Date” brand. We’ve just authored our first book together called “I’m Not Ugly. God Made Me Beautiful.” It’s more than just a book; it’s a conversation starter. It includes a story, fun work activities, and a 31-day journal filled with affirmations from the word of God to say out loud before school. I believe in the power of positive words, and this book is a great way for kids to start their day on a high note. There are also coloring pages inspired by experiences my daughter had on the bus on her way to school. I’m excited to share that Volume Two of the “Emani and Emiyah Favorite Play Date” series comes out next month, titled “I’m Not Ugly. God Made Me Strong.”
Professionally, my journey has been a mix of highs and lows. It wasn’t easy. There were moments of doubt and financial struggle, but my passion and faith in God kept me moving forward. I knew I had a calling to inspire and uplift women, and that vision fueled me through the tough times. I overcame challenges by staying true to my mission, continually growing, and relying on my support network. My faith and the support of my community were instrumental in overcoming obstacles.
I’ve learned several key lessons along the way. First, resilience is essential. There will always be challenges, but staying focused on your purpose helps you push through. Second, authenticity matters. Being true to who you are and your mission resonates with people and opens doors. Third, community is powerful. Surrounding yourself with supportive, like-minded individuals can make all the difference.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that we are dedicated to transformation and empowerment. Women of Fire Ministries is not just about offering support it’s about helping women realize their worth, build their confidence, and create a better future for themselves and their families. I’m passionate about advocating for single mothers and ensuring they have the resources and support they need to succeed.
Through my speaking engagements, books, and ministry, I aim to inspire women to embrace their God-given identities and pursue their dreams with confidence. My story is one of faith, resilience, and a deep commitment to making a difference in the lives of women everywhere.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a foodie so I’m a sucker for delicious cuisine and a great time.. I’m always on the lookout for delicious cuisine and a great time. Dallas has so much to offer! I love visiting the aquarium and sailing on the beautiful waters at Sapphire Marina Bay and Rowlette, Texas. There’s nothing like a picnic in the park with a good book while watching my girls have a blast at the splash pads at Midlothian Community Park or Little Elm Beach It’s the perfect way to relax and enjoy quality time with the family.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This shout out goes out to my amazing daughters Emani, Emiyah and my parents Christopher and Denise Frederick. Thank you for your love and support.
