We had the good fortune of connecting with Kylee Bowen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kylee, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Solomons Studio was a long time dream in the making. I wanted to create a space that was unique, full of light, and inspire the creative gene that lives in us all. The name Solomons comes from the book in the Bible, Song of Solomon. The story of love. We want everyone who walks through our doors to tell their story; if you are falling in love, created a family full of love, on a journey of self love, or need a space to host loved ones, we at Solomons want you to feel embraced and loved fully for who you are on the inside and out.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a wedding and family photographer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. My business, Photography By Kylee has always been my number one love and wanted Solomons Studio to just be a branch of me. My photography buisness as well Solomons Studio is something I dreamed of for so long! I built both of these businesses from the ground up. I was 16 year old mom and had every stigma against me so I definitely wouldn’t call this “easy”. Being a buisness owner is no joke! Some lessons that I have learned from this is that its okay to give yourself time to recharge! The saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day” is something I have to keep reminding myself. One step at time! I am learning and still learning how to balance both businesses, being a wife, and a teen girl mama is something I wouldn’t say I imagined being the hardest thing but with a lot of coffee, the most supportive family and friends, and the help of my Google Calendar we are doin the dang thing!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, yes! Im going to keep this Arlington, TX related even though I love all things DFW! We would start off our weekend with checking in at the cutest bed and breakfast, The Sanford House followed by a relaxing day at their spa and then dinner at Restaurant506.
The next day we are definitely brunching at The Tipsy Oak and then heading over to a fun filled day at Texas Live! If we are lucky depending on the time of year catch a Rangers or a Cowboys game!
Other fun stops along the way would be Grease Monkey for the best burgers, Division Brewing for all your craft beers, Inclusions Coffee for your caffeine fix, check out Free Play in downtown Arlington so you can live your best video game life, and then of course schedule a photoshoot at Solomons Studio!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! I have a few! First and foremost, my husband Colton and my daughter Kennedy. They have been the ones to push me, hold my hand, and get the front row seat to me chasing this dream. They haven’t been the ones to see just the good. They have seen all the bad, the late nights, and tears shed. They have been by my side since I told them I wanted to own a studio and never once told me “you shouldn’t, you can’t, or don’t do this”. They never doubted me, even when I was doubting myself. I am, because they are!
Secondly, my realtors Shawn and Kelli Delgado with Delgado Realty Group- Keller Williams. They listened to everything I wanted when it came to owning a studio. They didn’t stop searching until they found the perfect spot for me. I appreciate all the encouragement they gave me through out the process and their knowledge was comforting because lets face it big commitments are scary and they were their to make my mind at ease!
Lastly, I have been a lover and still a lover of the Lumen Room spaces in the DFW. Being able to create in those spaces these past few years just lit my fire more to want to own “something like that” one day. The owners creative vision and everything they offer inspired me and motivated me!
