We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristy Jennings and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to do work that I found meaningful and utilized my innate gifts and bring something that my community needed. I wanted to have my daily work life be something I would do whether I was paid for it or not!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At 38 years old and with 18 years in healthcare and mental health, I knew I needed to make a change and be my own boss. I dug deep and did interpersonal work and researched what I needed to create my small business and opened it in the fall of 2009. As a believer in God, I stepped out in faith and with a ton of learning, I launched the business during the recession. Over the 12.5 years my business has grown the very slow steady way, one relationship at a time. I have stayed focused on what we do and do it well. We now serve over 70 wholesale accounts and walk in customers in a brick and mortar and ship our teas National wide with an online shop.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my friend to Barkeep, Palo Santo, and Scratch for creative drinks in small settings. I would take them to Tower Theater for a live music show and to Jones Assembly for a small indoor/outdoor venue concert. I would take them to Scissortale park for the farmers market and an outdoor urban walk.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Over the last few years, Chris Fox and his business Fox Strategies in Okc, has helped me in identifying and using my voice and getting my business message out so much more efficiently! And belonging to Moguls, a small group of women who own their own businesses, lead by Stacey Johnson in Dallas, has been the ultimate game changer for me and my life personally and in business. She also has a group called Mavens which has enriched my interpersonal development tremendously.
