We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Parks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristen, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
One thing that most customers do not realize is that axe throwing can be a workout. Most people who enter Stumpy’s Hatchet House do not throw axes the whole time but if our customers do throw axe a lot, they leave with a feeling of a light workout. For instance, during the winter time customers come in with a lot of layers on but about half way through most of those layers are off and we have turned the fans on for them.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
No, it was not an easy journey to start a business. Before we got into this business we would seek advice from advisers, and they would say things like, not to give up, it takes hard work, stay focused, do not get discouraged, and lastly surround yourself with people that have started a business and they will help guide you in times of need. There really is not a gondi type of advice for starting a business except, IT TAKES HARD WORK. We have had more learning lessons than we ever expected but just a couple are, our neighboring businesses in Fort Worth are great people, Covid is horrible for business, take time to hire employees. Honestly, there is no one like us. Stumpy’s Hatchet House is more than an indoor axe throwing venue, we are an over all experience. We start with our hospitality, not customer service, we are focus on hospitality because our customer are walking into a family and leave a member of of the family. None of our competitors can duplicate this but they can try to imitate it. Our environment is infectious, it screams a homie cabin with beer, wine, and axe throwing. Customers enter our space and have no clue what to expect but leave feel joyful that they accomplished something different.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is easy, stock yards, sun dance square, and of course the near southside neighborhood. When in the near south side, we would go to STUMPY’S HATCHET HOUSE first, twilight lounge, tuplus, and top it off with some amazing BBQ at HEIM.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, we would not be where we are today without God in our lives, first and foremost. There is no chance we would have gotten to this point without our faith and divine intervention. Next would be our family, before, during, and currently our family is constantly our biggest supporters. They are always pushing for us to accomplish all of our goals and more.
