We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Stewart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, what do you attribute your success to?
Faith and relationships.
It starts with God, he gave me this business and has blessed me in more ways than I can count with the friends, clients, and industry peers he has connected me with.
Then I prioritize relationships. I have so many biz besties and friends in the industry I can turn to for advice and encouragement when the going gets tough. I love the way we all lift each other up when needed, and cheer each other on as we launch new things to serve our clients better. I always tell my clients “service over selling” when it comes to spreading their messages, especially on other people’s platforms. The relationships we build and nurture in business will return tenfold.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a Book Marketing coach and host the Book Marketing Mania podcast. I love combining my past corporate marketing experience with my gifts and strengths of service and strategy to serve authors and help them spread their Christian Living messages far and wide, especially on podcasts.
Back in 2014, I had the idea to write a book about my journey as a special needs mom. I attended my first writing conference and soaked up everything I could, but never wrote that book. I returned to the conference the next year and felt the call from God to pause on writing my own book and instead start serving his authors. They love writing words but not marketing them.
I’ve helped authors build their platforms and market their books in a variety of ways. But as an avid podcast listener, I love discovering new authors as I hear them on one of my favorite shows. Nothing beats the way you feel like they are speaking just to you and that their book was written just for you right now when you needed it most in your life. Then when you get the book in your hand, you hear their voice as you read it (literally if you have an audiobook – ha!)
Starting my business didn’t come without challenges but having my friends who are industry peers, business coaches, and lots and lots of prayer and obedience has helped me keep going. That’s why it’s so important to put relationships first. Staying true to my values—faith, relationships, trust, and fun—helps guide me as I grow my business and consider new adventures.
One of things I’m most proud of and excited about is my podcast, Book Marketing Mania. As a podcast host, being able to reach and serve authors across the world from behind the microphone at my home in Dallas is priceless! I was super nervous to start a podcast in 2021, but attending the Spark Media conference for Christian Podcasters helped me focus on getting started, and the community has always been there to answer every question I have to keep me going.
If you have ever thought of starting one, go for it! It’s a blast. I’m 18 months in and want to continue to improve my hosting and guesting skills because I’m all in on podcasting to serve authors and writers. Since it’s your podcast you can do what you want as far as frequency, length of episodes, etc. Just show up consistently for your listeners and serve them well no matter what
.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My husband is a BBQ fanatic so we’d have to take you to Hutchins BBQ in McKinney. But don’t get too full on your dinner, because they have yummy peach cobbler and banana pudding for dessert and it’s complimentary!
Another night, we’d grab dessert at Cocktail Creamery in Mckinney…but not after Hutchins of course. Give yourself enough time to stroll and window shop downtown McKinney and watch their calendar of events as there may be seasonal events happening.
You’re an early bird like me so we’d head up to The Book Shoppe and Coffee in Frisco. We’d bring our laptops too for a little writing time, it’s my fave place to meet my friend Toni!
For a mexican food fix, we’d go to Ernesto’s in Frisco, it’s a little hole in the wall, but they serve amazing food and have incredible service, and it’s easy on the budget.
We’d definitely set aside an afternoon to visit Buc-ee’s in Melissa. It’s not your momma’s pit stop. The bathrooms are incredible, and the Buc-ee’s beaver nuggets are a must. Allow ample time (hence the whole afternoon) to shop for clothes. In addition to seasonal Buc-ee’s tees (they had the cutest glow-in-the-dark New Years Eve shirts), be on the lookout for pop culture tees too. I always find cute ones from my favorite TV shows, Friends and Yellowstone.
Whether you’re a true football fan, or just watch it for the personal stories like me, a trip to The Star in Frisco is a fun outing to see the Dallas Cowboys world headquarters. There’s sightseeing, dining, and shopping galore!
One night we’d have to splurge and go stay at the Renaiisance Hotel Legacy West. No matter what time of the year you stay, their rooftop pool is open. In the summer it’s the happening place to be, and in the winter, be sure to bring your jacket to the deck.
If it’s summer time, we’d definitely head out for a day on Lake Lewisville in our boat. Our preferred time is 4:00 p.m. or after so we can enjoy time on the water as everyone else is heading in for the night, and we get to catch the sunset to boot!
If it’s Christmas time, we’d check out ICE! at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine. Everyone must see it at least once, but do not forget your winter clothes and especially gloves.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Paul. We’ve been married 26 years and he is so supportive of everything I do in business and loves me unconditionally!
