We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendal Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendal, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business is indeed an interesting one and quite a journey.

I’ll start from the beginning though ( or what I perceive as the beginning) I got pregnant my sophomore year in college. I was in a serious relationship with my daughter’s father and the relationship not only wasn’t healthy but it didn’t last.

At the time, I was so ready to graduate and start making money, I lost sight of my ultimate career goal which was counseling. I hopped right into education while navigating life as a young mom.

I learned very quickly however the impact of raising a child in a broken home, even if her father was present when it came to coparenting. This seed that was planted would stick with me, honestly like a thorn in my side.

I worked 11 years as an educator, 7 as a teacher and 4 as a high school counselor.

I learned very quickly that families matter! I thought I could impact people in the classroom and then I thought well high school counseling has to be the best way. But the more I talked with students, I knew there were generational cycles that needed to be broken.

I started my blog back in 2018 Sistas on the Sofa. I knew eventually it would be my private practice name, however I never imagined stepping into entrepreneurship full time. In my head I would retire as an educator.

Well 2020 hit and I was able to have some amazing daily conversations with a good friend. He poured so much knowledge into me, I knew I had to make this practice come into fruition.

At the top of 2021 I worked with a few individuals for free and it was at that moment that I knew why God had not only allowed me to experience failed relationships but everything I had experienced all came together to serve my future clients.

Fast forward to 2022. I have been in practice for a year. Divorce proofing marriages and I have to say it is the most fulfilling and rewarding experience I have ever felt. I was reflecting on being a first generation student, with a bachelors degree and two masters degrees while having a daughter sophomore year in college…..but I also had the audacity to step out on faith into full time entrepreneurship again something that has not been modeled to me, where I come from.

So my goal is not only to cultivate healthy relationships and create healthy loving legacies, but I am also creating generational wealth due to unlimited earning power. To say I am blessed is an understatement, I am grateful that God saw me fit enough to complete such a huge vision.

This is your sista on the sofa,
Kendal!

What should our readers know about your business?
My heart to serve others is what stands out. If you know me then you know I have a genuine heart to help everyone be successful in all areas of their lives, but my passion is helping people to attract or keep their forever plus ones.

Most people know me for my catch phrase “divorce proofing marriages’ ‘, I think what makes me unique in this coaching arena is my educational background, being an educator for 7 years and being result driven, makes my approach as a coach extremely intentional. I want my clients to walk away with tools to not only help their relationships last forever but for them to enjoy doing life together.

I am extremely excited about how well my clients are doing. A lot of times couples come to me at the brink of getting a divorce and now they are happily married enjoying one another’s company.

My singles have learned how to shift their mindset by trusting and believing that they deserve a good healthy love, they have created better relationships with God and achieved goals they set across the board. They literally shift into magnets attracting all the things they desire including love.

Speaking of my business, let me share more about the program. It is 6-8 months. We wok on mindset for 8 weeks, communication directly addressing the predictors of divorce and techniques on how to talk to your spouse so they will listen, then finally we dive into intimacy which is my favorite part of the program those sessions are more interactive and I get to see the growth of my clients in acton. Throughout the program we also have one on one sessions where the clients evaluate their progress. It is truly a transformative experience.

Entrepreneurship isn’t easy. It requires a certain level of discipline, confidence and faith. I am blessed enough to know that this is my purpose so it helps me show up even when I face challenges….my why is so much bigger than me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh I love planning, I do it for fun lol.

First we would have to pick a place to stay these hotels are some my favorite and if they have spa that is definitely bonus for me

Omni downtown Dallas (great spa)

Hotel Joule (again great spa experience)

Statler ( love the modern look of the rooms)

The Virgin Hotel (love the look and it is a very active hotel)

Restaurants:

Ida Claire (brunch)

Happiest Hour for a nice rooftop experience

Pangea (black owned and great food)

Kitchen and Kocktails because everybody needs to experience at least once
Kai (because Asian cuisine is my favorite)

Perry’s Steakhouse in downtown Dallas again for views and great food.

I love music and don’t mind going to a day party in Dallas, so that would be included on our events.

I love the water so a pool day or a lake day would be included with different water activities.

And I love cooking for my loved ones so a game night or karaoke night in the house with good food is how I would end the trip.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout the owner of Novelty Rides Rashad Wallace. He’s defintely been a mentor for me through this whole experience.
