We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenadee Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenadee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since I graduated high school nearly 10 years ago I’ve been on this mission to find what I’m passionate about, what make me happy. I changed my major three different times and all majorly different things. Finally I settled on teaching, teaching makes me happy, working with kids makes me happy but I still didn’t feel fulfilled. This past October I got to marry the love of my life, I completely planned my own wedding from A to Z and let me tell you, I LOVED IT! I loved talking to vendors, organizing contracts and contact information, and I loved creating the schedule and making the important decisions. It was through that process that I started thinking how I would love to do something like this full time, be my own boss, manage my own income, and my own schedule. Most importantly thought, manage my own happiness. At that time though I had no idea where to start and honestly was overwhelmed at the idea of trying to figure it out which killed my motivation. Fast Forward a couple of months and we had a friends wedding in Portland, OR and to my surprise the they couple had no day of coordinator, as her friend and someone who just went through this knew there was no way that she could do it all herself so I happily stepped in. Saying I rocked it is honestly an understatement and I’m not afraid to toot my own horn. So many people were asking me how long I’d been doing this, and/or how did the bride find me, I was constantly explaining that I’m really a guest and I just started twenty-four hours ago. The entire experience was a whirlwind and honestly, I have never felt happier while “working”. Once we came home from that trip, I had the push I needed and dove in head first. I created my packages, my pricing, my social medias, and bought my domain and created my website. I was no longer concerned with how hard it would be or the struggles that might come with starting my own business. In fact, I’m mad that I let it stop me in the first place but it helped me prepare to take that leap by sitting on it and thinking about it for as long as I did.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Mueller Memories is a wedding planning and wedding coordinating business. Your wedding day is one of the most special days of your life and without the right kind of support around you it can be the most stressful day of your life. My goal as a couples wedding planner and/or coordinator is to take that stress away and allow my couples to soak in every aspect because trust me when I say, it flies by. We’re small and we’re new to the wedding scene but we are growing. It’s easy to get discouraged when you put yourself out there and get no response but the best thing I’ve learned is to just keep going. Keep advertising yourself, keep talking to people, keep showing up to events and eventually you’ll find your people. Businesses don’t grow overnight, you won’t all of a sudden have thousands of people knocking down your door. You have to want it, and want it enough to work hard for it. For me, I love this, I love seeing people blissfully happy on what should be such a magical day. My goal is simply to make life easier for just one day out of thousand.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a Fort Worth girl through and through and with that being said I would take them to the Stockyards. The Stockyards is such a different spot from the rest of the city and it’s like being transported back in time. We would head down in the evening but be 4pm in order to see the cattle drive and then go to Cattleman’s Steakhouse for one of the best steaks I’ve ever had for dinner, and then of course head to the rodeo. I’ve taken so many friends and family members to their first rodeo, no one has ever complained and have come back and asked to go again. After that maybe grab some late night snacks at the Biscuit Bar in Mule Ally or check out Second Rodeo Brewing or any of the bars up and down Exchange. The Stockyard truthfully have something for everyone in my opinion and is something so different than they typically city experience.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh goodness, I would have to say my Husband. This man supports my every decision and never hesitates to tell me that he believes in me or is proud of me. He celebrates every high and navigates through every low with me. He’s my advice giver, my proof reader, and my rock to lean on when needed. He encourages me to put myself out there and work hard for what I want, he understands what I need to be happy and what I want to be happy in a job/career and he wants that for me as much as I want that for myself. I’m so thankful for him and everything he does for me small or large.
