We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Scribner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The wedding industry is nothing anyone can prepare for. You are a part of the single most important day of a couples life, the day they will remember forever. So obviously the place is so important and we are so blessed that so many couples have chosen The French Farmhouse Venue to get married at. We love to make every bride feel like family and with myself being young and most of my friends getting married at this time I feel like I am a part of planning a different “friends” wedding (sometimes 3) every weekend. The wedding venue is typically one of the first things a couple does after or these days before they are even engaged. Therefore, at the time of the wedding I have gotten to know the couples for a year or even more! Being family owned it is just my mom, dad and I that run the place. My dad built all the fences, my mom designed and built the venue, I do tours, marketing and it’s all hands on deck on the weekends. This could mean a 45+ hour weekend of weddings after a full work week. The wedding industry is not glitz and glam. It is working every single weekend, cleaning throw-up at 1AM, floor plans, layouts, insurance, lots and lots of late nights but at the end of the day it is all so worth it. You are a part of two families coming together to become one and get to be a part of the celebration.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As I mentioned earlier, The French Farmhouse Venue is a family owned business. The Owners, My parents Steve and Michelle and myself Kelsey Scribner run the venue. The idea sprung by myself being a triplet (two brothers, Cole and Collin Scribner) and attending lots of weddings. My mom being a very talented designer and “picker” I always thought she could build a really cool venue. I was already in the event world but in Sports, at PrimeTime Sports running youth basketball tournaments all over. I knew I loved the thrill and satisfaction it felt to put on a successful event after lots of hard work. We already had the land and an awesome oak tree that has a base of one and splits off into two. This has now become the “two becoming one tree” that couples say “I do” under in our outdoor ceremony lawn. The building process as a whole was very challenging and of course wanted it to be perfect for all of our couples and to be done in time for our first wedding in September 2020. The goal of The French Farmhouse Venue is to not just be a building on the side of the road but to be a place you want to come back too. We are now family and we can’t wait to watch our couples grow old together and start families.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite things is trying new restaurants. Now, with that being said the venue is very remote. We are about 45 minutes of Frisco, an hour from Dallas and an hour from Fort Worth. We are kinda the top of the triangle to the north. If you were coming into town for the venue I would tell everyone to stay in Frisco, Texas. I would start the evening at basically anywhere at Legacy West. Mesero is an awesome Mexican restaurant, Taverna & North Italia has awesome happy hour and pizza, Tommy Bahamas will make you feel like you are on the beach. You can not go wrong. Then to end the night head over to the Legacy Food Hall were you can try deserts, all different types of food and then the brewery up top.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The wedding industry welcomed us with open arms in particular, our wedding venue “neighbor” Jessica Dixon with Whispering Oaks Wedding Venue. When reaching out, we knew we wanted to build a venue but were brand new to the wedding industry and to be honest did not know what we were getting ourselves into. Jessica never once saw it as competition and has been someone I can call up with anything. She has been a cheerleader, a supporter, a friend and someone to answer any question under the sun. We are so thankful for Jessica and all that she has done for us and she deserves the ultimate shoutout.
