We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Stiles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had some type of “entrepreneur” mentality even as a child! Lemonade stands, selling homemade bracelets, you name it- I did it! As an adult, I’ve always had a knack for crafts. I’ve done multiple things over the years and found some way to turn my creativity into a hustle!

When I decided to start Stiles Design Co. I was brainstorming ideas of things I knew I could do- but wasn’t something anyone in my area already did. It was after Christmas when I ordered my parents custom engraved cutting boards online that The lightbulb went off. Laser engraving. I spent the next few days researching various lasers and purchased one shortly after. Little did I know that It was an investment that paid itself off in 3 months.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think my designs and product are different than others because I put my own twist on things. When someone comes to me with their idea for a sign, or engrave I take what they want and mix in a little “Stile” (ha! Get it? ) My favorite is when someone gives me their blessing to do what I think looks good!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Personally, I’m not a huge fan of going out and about for nights on the town or anything of that sort. I am totally a homebody! When I’m not home, you can find my family fishing at some spots at Lake Lavon or camping! So I would take my friend to do that and then finish up with dinner at one of my favs- The Yard in McKinney!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out to my husband who always supports my crazy ideas I have. He had more faith in me than I had in myself when it came to being successful with Laser Engraving!
