We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathleen House and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kathleen, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Lots of things make me happy. Interacting with all kinds of people, discussing ideas with them, listening to their life stories and helping others be motivated and positive All my life I have enjoyed being outside. Creating in so many ways has given me happiness.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
After completing my degree in art education and being married and expecting our second child I decided to stay home for a few years and take care of the family. Once our daughters started to become independent I decided it was time for me to move on with my creativity, art education and art business ownership. I have learned so many lessons along the way, set goals, complete tasks, continue to be positive, reach out to others and appreciate those who are there for me. All my visual art pieces tell a story. Coming up in November 2021 I will present a retrospective solo art exhibition that will cover the past 35 years of my multiple art series. I enjoy creating in my own abstract and expressive way. It means a lot to me when someone sees an image in my work that means something to them. I like to share.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them on a road trip. Austin is one of my favorites. Hanging out on south Congress, staying overnight at San Jose Hotel, walking the street, sharing a cocktail, hanging out by the pool. Being able to go to hear live music and meet the musician is always fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been many people and organizations that have inspired me throughout my life. Being loved and cared for by my grandma Emma as a child inspired me to always be positive. Being in Girl Scouts and completing badges was an inspiration to set goals and complete tasks. Praying to God as a teenager to send somebody to my hometown to save me brought me the love of my life. Entering college and deciding to major in art I have had so much experience under the art umbrella of creating, teaching and running art businesses. I dedicate my positive and creative self to my grandma Emma who always said yes to me.
