We had the good fortune of connecting with Kassie Coleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kassie, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
Success for me is within. Within you. It’s you reaching whatever goal you’ve set and feeling good about it, and setting more goals! Firstly, if you are satisfied within because you’ve done something or something came to pass, that’s the # 1 thing you’ve succeeded. Believing you could and you did! It’s measured by the standards you’ve set for yourself.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always been an artist at heart. I wrote poetry and lyrics since about 10 years old. My style was creative to me even then. Today my career is filled with me being a health influencer, makeup artist, doula, & possess a full-time gig on the side. LOL! Part of my journey started with makeup. I never thought much about makeup until I found myself as a shampoo apprentice for a private hair salon. One day I felt a little tingle in my heart and had the idea to organize a holiday party for the clients, part of it being a makeover session. I had never done anyone’s makeup but was strongly urged that I could do it. So the party was planned! During the party, I put what makeup skills I had to the test and had the first client up for service while the others mingled. Once I completed a face, I took a polaroid of their new look. They loved it and that made me feel great. That was definitely a proud moment for me. That led me to become one of Dallas’ premier makeup artists for some time. I won competitions, created looks for fashion shows, and had many honors of being a bridal makeup artist. And even have a few celebrity clients under my belt. I believe that being consistent in finding opportunities to use your talent albeit no payment is important. I considered it an investment to enhance your talent. Keep pushing forward and you’ll get there. Be passionate about what you’ve got going. I’ve learned And to never second guess yourself. If you think you can do it, DO IT! Because you can indeed DO IT. Know your worth! My brand supports owning your individuality and letting your light shine just as you are. We don’t want to cover your beauty, we want to enhance it!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Moving about the city, I typically would start with a workout. Maybe visit a gym like Equinox or SWEAT or workout outside at Lakeside Park. Grab a juice at Pressed Juicery or head over to Flower Child for a yummy breakfast. A great weekend brunch spot is either True Kitchen or Whiskey Cake. Legacy at Plano West has all the great spots. I cook a lot at home so eating out during the week is pretty null and void. However, I like pairing wines every once in a while. So a nice Sunday drive to Celina where Eden Hill Winery resides is a yes. Great wines and there’s always an event happening. So we’d definitely check them out. I’d see if they’d be interested in checking out the Perot Museum, the view from the Ronald Kirk Bridge, Deep Ellum is always a hit, West Village is just as smooth both have uniquely great shops & eats as well as Lower Greenville Ave. Buffalo Exchange is still a great thrifting love for me & must hit. Another great spot for me is The Grove at Harwood. It’s an outside play/lounge area for those that like to be outside and they have these awesome snowcones. Outdoor volleyball is fun here too. Closing out nights, if a restaurant is choice, I’d dine at any these: The Henry, Tulum. or Sixty Vines. Night capping is still a thing for me. Therefore, we may stop off at Chocolate Secrets for all the amazingness that it possesses or duck off to a speakeasy. These are some of the spots I frequent and wholly enjoy.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, I’d like to shout out God. I’m talentless without Him. I’d like to give a shoutout to all of the people that have encouraged me to get here. I have an amazing family that puts their best efforts forth in supporting everything that I do. My friends are just the same, they’ve had my back for a very long time. My entrepreneurial colleagues in makeup, photography, birth work, & fitness have definitely been inspirational throughout my journey. I’ve learned so much from them all and am grateful.
