We had the good fortune of connecting with KARA RAINER and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KARA, how do you think about risk?
I love risk! Now, this is total opposite of where I was about 11+ years ago. Slowly, slowly, I began to love risk and learned to embrace risk in order to Dare to Be My Authentic Self. Daring to take risks is what gave me the gusto to jump into my purpose, to my dream career as an actor. Was it scary to take a risk? Yes,it can be. Is it scary now? No, absolutely not. Risk is taking the steps that you need to take to get to where you want to go. If you don’t take a step in that direction, you will never get there. You have to take the risks to get there. A Favorite quote to get you moving: What if I fall? Oh, but my darling, what if you fly?” – Erin Hanson
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since I started on this journey of becoming an actor over 10 years ago, I have learned so much about the industry. I think what I am most proud of is the transformation from being afraid and not knowing where to start, to, having the confidence and mental equivalency, and readiness to jump in a scene with the best of the best. I think overcoming being afraid really just came from making the decision to “Be afraid and do it anyway”. Right? I mean, if you want to do something, if you have a dream, you have to start somewhere. If you don’t begin, it certainly will never happen, but then all of a sudden you realized you have taken so many tiny afraid baby steps and then you are here, and you are not afraid, instead you are excited about what you do, everyday! I wake up EXCITED to see what this day is going to bring to me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite places to go in the Dallas area would be: Bishop Arts District – Such a fun place to shop, hang out and eat. Stock and Barrel is a favorite of mine as well as Vera Cruz…AND a must…please do yourself a favor and go sample some chocolates at Dude, Sweet! Also, check out some theatres in the area – The Core Theatre in Richardson is where I have worked often on stage and they have a true love for the arts! Support local Theatre!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My acting coach, and well known actor, Glenn Morshower (Transformers, 24, The Resident, Bloodline, Friday Night Lights…), has been the most instrumental person in preparing me as an actor. He coaches not only acting skills, but he also teaches about MINDSET, which is so important to know, especially actors! He changed the direction of my career from spinning my wheels, to putting my dreams to work.
