We had the good fortune of connecting with Kadie Roberson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kadie, what do you attribute your success to?
There is no possible way I would be here without my team of amazing people beside me. My parents have sacrificed just about all of their time, sleep, money, and energy to get me where I am today. My band mates are not just band mates. They are my family. They work their butts off for me and push me to do what I want to do and be the person I want to be. My boyfriend is not just your typical boyfriend. He runs sound, he loads and unloads equipment, he makes the flyers for every show, and he works his butt off just as much as I do on my career. I wouldn’t be here without any of them.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being where I am today, I look back on the things I wish I would’ve done differently. My heart and soul has always been in rock music, but somewhere along the way i got stuck in country. My mom has an old video of me somewhere when I was around 6 years old singing Bad Company by Bad Company. I remember listening to my MP3 player around the same age and loving Styx, Montrose, and Robin Trower. I thought my dads music was the only good music around so that’s what I grew up on. Even when I auditioned for America’s Got Talent, I sang Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd. No one really knows these things. No one really knows I’m a total metal head now. I get a lot of backlash now for doing rock music, dressing the way I like, and wearing my makeup a certain way. If I could go back, I wouldn’t have listened to the people that just wanted to market off of me, I would’ve went with my gut and kept doing what I loved.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s not a lot of interesting things in a small town like Kemp, Texas. I would most definitely take someone to Jalopy Joe’s in Gun Barrel City aka my favorite place on the planet.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Again, my team. I wouldn’t be the person i am today without them.
