We had the good fortune of connecting with K. Briggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi K., where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m originally from Brooklyn, New York, and I grew up in a vibrant and creative environment. I’m the second to last sibling in a family of 10, raised by a single mother. My upbringing was one where creativity flourished all around me, from art to music to writing, and that had a profound impact on shaping who I am today. Music was a big part of my life for several years, and it taught me discipline and the power of expression. But as time went on, my passion shifted toward film, and I decided to take a leap into comedy show directing.

Having such a large family, especially being in the middle of it, taught me resilience, the importance of collaboration, and how to find my voice in a world full of different perspectives. I think those lessons really laid the foundation for my entrepreneurial mindset. I’ve always been motivated to create and pursue things that excite me, but also to make meaningful connections and navigate challenges with creativity at the core.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets my art apart is my personal story. Just as every individual has a unique fingerprint, everyone’s journey is distinct. In the same way I used to compose music with a cinematic perspective, my experiences—both the challenges and the triumphs—have shaped who I am today. These experiences have made me fearless, resilient, and adaptive in the face of adversity. My art reflects that, as it’s deeply connected to the stories I choose to tell. I’m particularly drawn to the emotional aspects, finding inspiration in both the darker moments and the silver linings that follow. I’m most proud of the opportunity to tell the story of my father in my upcoming documentary, POPS. What excites me the most is not only sharing his story with the world, but also the chance to heal alongside him through this process. The key to my journey has been taking risks. The more I bet on myself, the more opportunities seemed to open up. I’ve always found complacency uncomfortable, which has pushed me to grow both personally and professionally. While there have been many challenges along the way, I’m grateful for each one, as they’ve helped shape me into the professional I am today. This career path hasn’t been easy, but if it were, everyone would be doing it. Some important lessons I’ve learned are: keep practicing, stay consistent, be resilient, trust your instincts, and embrace your mistakes, because that’s how growth happens. I value my privacy and prefer to maintain a sense of mystique about my life. At the core, I’m just a regular dreamer from Brooklyn who wants to create and contribute in a meaningful way. My focus is on my work and how it can be of service to others. If people can appreciate my contributions and the stories I tell, then that’s enough for me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a homebody, but here’s a shameless plug – Every last Saturday of the month at 10pm, come out to Rodney’s Comedy Club in NYC where I will be directing a live taping of ‘See Comedy LIve’! You don’t want to miss it!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a huge shoutout to my family, especially my parents, for not only giving me life but also creating the space for me to explore and nurture my imagination. A special thanks to my siblings, who are each creative in their own way, for inspiring me every day to dream big and push myself harder. Beyond my family, who have always been my creative role models, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho has also served as a powerful source of inspiration and guidance. I’m deeply grateful to my friend and mentor, Alastair ‘G-Lock’ Christopher, for taking me under his wing early in my film career and showing me the ropes.
