We had the good fortune of connecting with Julien X Peralta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julien X, how do you think about risk?
My name is Julien X Peralta and I am the Lead Agent and Founder of The X Group.
When I think about risk and how it has shaped my career, I often associate opportunity and a healthy dose of delusion with the word “risk”.

My perspective is that risk implies a certain level of reward, if everything goes well. What if the risk is worth the reward and would it be a mistake to not try? It was a risk to jump into real estate. It was a risk to leave my previous real estate sales team and start my own. It was a risk to abandon old school methods and lean into doing things in my own unique way. The healthy yet delusional voice saying, “of course you can do it!” battling with the “what if this doesn’t work out” was quickly drowned out by the one voice saying, “What if everything worked out?”.

Risk is the yellow light at a four way stop. It’s a sign that triggers you to bet on yourself. It could be a sign that you’re exactly on the right track but should slow down and make a calculated next move. I think if “risk” isn’t a little scary and also exciting, you probably aren’t playing the game of life big enough! While, risky decisions have all the potential to be catastrophic, it doesn’t mean, “be prepared to lose it all”. – Being presented with risks is the sign that you are growing and bigger opportunities are finding you. Maybe all risks aren’t for you just as not all opportunities are necessarily your opportunity to explore – but what remains true is, the ability to trust your instincts, bet on yourself, and shoot for the sweet prize or epic story on the other side of the “risk”.

In short, take the risk. Do the epic thing. Trust that you have what it takes to make it all work. The prize on the other side is usually worth it!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank the numerous mentors that have poured into me and have continuously helped me see all of the potential
