We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Lefebvre Chung and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie Lefebvre, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
This is such an interesting question! For my husband and I and in our experiences with our business endeavors, we’ve found the the line between deciding to push further and to keep going versus calling it quits is decided more from your heart than with your head. What I mean is when you always do your due diligence and your homework into those factors that affect your choice, the bad opportunities become clear and it’s a no-brainer. But for those tougher decisions or moments, in our experiences we’ve learned once you’ve worked through the pluses and minuses of whether to continue to keep going or to give up, oftentimes it came to a near even choice: there were as many reasons to say “no” and not move forward as there were reasons to say “yes”. Ultimately, we learned to trust ourselves and to follow where our hearts led us. Do we love what we are doing? Are we excited, passionately so, about what we are doing and how we want to get to our goals? There has to be a deeper and more emotional reason that drives you through the hard and stressful moments (because they will come), to push you through the long and difficult hours, and to keep you uplifted and positive throughout. This is what we’ve learned in our experiences in starting Jovie Salon 19 years ago and in growing our incredible salon family into three locations through North Dallas.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been a professional hairdresser for more than 24 years now and own Jovie Salon with three beautiful salon locations in the cities of Frisco, Allen, and McKinney here in North Texas. I think what sets our small business apart is three things: we have proudly worked backstage and behind some of the most influential designer shows for Fashion Week in New York, Paris, and Miami, we have an incredible salon team that passionately pursues education for more than 120 hours each and every year, and lastly we love our salon guests and really work hard to give them our very best in every instance. We have gotten to where we are today through many years of hard work and sacrifice. It was definitely not easy and there were and are challenges every day. But as I shared before, we’ve learned to trust in ourselves and in our belief in building something that is special to us. And we’re grateful for the opportunity to pursue work that we love with people we care about every day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Favorite spots in the city? For good barbecue, we would head out to Tender Barbecue in Celina, which is really great! For some fun movie-watching time as a family, we would plan for a fun night at iPic Theater in Fairview which has terrific movie seating and a great menu for food and drinks. Good shopping would lead us to NorthPark Mall.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We have worked with some wonderful people through our journey and we have received love, support, and encouragement from many special organizations and people. Specifically, we have proudly partnered with Toni&Guy, Aveda, Paul Mitchell, Dallas Summer Musicals, and University of North Texas and we have also grown from incredible shared experiences working with other industry professionals and artists in New York, Paris, Miami, Toronto, Santa Monica, and more. But the persons who we wish to highlight the most in our story are the awesome individuals that make up our Jovie Salon family. Each is unique, funny, caring, kind, and passionate and every one of our salon family has made an important difference to the shared growth and success of our whole team. Thank you to our awesome, awesome Jovie Salon family.
