We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I’ve learned that success is found when the focus is off of yourself and on serving others. When the opportunity had originally come to start teaching/coaching voice, I had said yes because it was due to someone seeing the passion I have to help others and providing me a safe space to strengthen that gift within the realms of teaching. Four and half years in and my heart is still about caring for people in ways that inspire them to take healthy risks, and set them up for success. You can do all the marketing and promoting possible. But at the end of the day, who you are and how you steward your “why” is what people see first, causing them to give their best yes and lead to great success along the way. Not just for them, but for you.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I currently run my own business as a private vocal coach, working within Legacy Music Studio in Old Town Lewisville, Tx. Before I began pursuing this career, my focus was pursuing a career within ministry. After graduating from a seminary-type school, I worked within the church from 2015-2018 in both leading a childcare team of 80+ staff members and eventually being a worship coordinator for 4 campuses. Within both of those roles, I learned so much about administration, structure, how to serve people and develop leaders and musicians along the way. So when I began pursuing this career path fully, I already had some of the tools needed for what was to come — which was a slow build up.

One of the greatest challenges and lessons I’ve learned is to not let the slow build up of your business cause you to believe you’re a failure. Everything in life takes time to grow. Whether it is a child, a plant, a pet, a savings account, etc.. You will make mistakes along the way, learn from those moments and see growth in time. All of it is leading you to greener pastures and greater things. And when those big opportunities come, remember to go into it all with a heart of gratitude. Remember where you started from and the people who loved you and supported you along the way.

As I’ve continued to develop musicians/vocalists over the last 4+ years, I’ve been privileged to work with some incredible people and organizations such as recording artists, Emmy Award Winning Voice Actors/Artists, Mega church-based worship leaders, CYT Dallas (Christian Youth Theatre), etc.. As of January 2023, I will be traveling to teach workshops and classes within DFW and New Orleans.

I’m grateful to say I’ve worked with 150+ individuals and seen a great amount of them excel is so many ways. But the most important one is seeing my students grow in confidence. So many people struggle with anxiety and self-confidence. And my heart is to help people see the beauty and strength they have within. Once that’s found, the sky’s the limit!

Because of teaching and see my students chase their dreams, it’s continued to inspire me as an active musician in the DFW metroplex with my band Vigil. We were able to release 3 singles in 2022 with our producer who is based in New York, opened Sounds of Lewisville Summer Concert Series and Western Days in Old Town Lewisville and are releasing an EP in 2023. Adding to that, I am part of a songwriting community based in Dallas called Artisan and will be featured on their newest EP coming in 2023.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When friends comes to visit, I always make sure to take them to Bishop Arts District as there are so many great restaurants, boutiques and small businesses that we can support. Another great area is Old Town Lewisville. They have a great barbecue place called Sullivan Texas BBQ. It’s a family owned restaurant that serves some of the best meat and has a very kind staff.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I believe I said it previously, but my reason for doing what I love is because someone special helped me find my purpose. That person is Jenny James, owner/founder of Legacy Music Studio in Old Town Lewisville. In 2018, she pulled me aside one day at church and asked me if I had ever thought about pursuing a career in teaching private voice lessons. After saying yes, Jenny has become not only a dear friend, but an incredible mentor as well. She has taught me so much and supported/believed in me during some of the greatest and hardest moments. Because of her invitation, I am actively walking out my purpose and pursuing opportunities I never thought possible. Jenny James, thank you for changing my life.
