We had the good fortune of connecting with Josanne Stephens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josanne, what do you attribute your success to?
I care! People come to Spa in the City because they want to look younger or better or maybe just to start being more Pro-Youth. Whatever their reason for setting foot into our medspa, they are entrusting us with their appearance. Changing the way a person looks, albeit not permanently in most instances, is a trust we do not take lightly. From my first days as a new injector, I knew people were excited, anxious and nervous all at once, but they sat in my chair and shared their hope and vision for themselves. They were allowing me the opportunity to carry out that vision without making them look overdone, weird, not themselves and all within their budget. I understood what a huge responsibility that was and learned it was OK to say “NO!” You can ask anyone who has come to me, and I think the overwhelming sentiment is ‘Josanne cares about me, she is not going to make me look funny and she definitely will say no.’ I believe everyone in Spa in the City has this attitude no matter if we are creating a new pout or getting rid of some unwanted hair.

What should our readers know about your business?
I think the thing that sets me and Spa in the City apart from other medspas in Dallas is that I am not afraid to tell a client “no” if I don’t think something is in their best interest. So many people in this industry just look at the $$ and don’t care if the client looks weird, or disproportionate. They also don’t take the time to know the clients. Even though the client may think they absolutely NEED to spend $2000 and have these ginormous unattractive trout pout lips, we help them look at their overall budget and help them to think more long term. Are you going to want to keep paying that kind of money year after year at the expense of say your moisturizer and sunscreen? We ask a lot of questions because we want both short and long term happiness, as well as relationships with our clients. I care about all of our clients, as does all the staff at Spa in the City.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well with COVID that is a little hard right now, and we are in Dallas so dressing up to sit outside isn’t the best idea, so I would have to say with delivery galore my house and backyard patio with misters is pretty awesome. You can’t ever get enough great food and Margs from Jose located to the west of Spa in the City and Neighborhood Services (NHS) located to the east of us for fab comfort food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout for my business success is without a doubt Dr Dee L Martinez! He is my medical director, friend and mentor, but most importantly he is the one I credit for beginning my membership model which is the backbone of my business. Several years ago when I was a small 1 person operation he encouraged me to start a membership program. I didn’t think I had enough services to even offer one, but he also encouraged me to buy a used Gentlelase by Candela and start performing laser hair removal/reduction . Off I went!!!! My goal the first year was to have 100 members but I tripled that number and never looked back.
